Solved Bios not recognising Pata drive !!!

hi,
my machine is i3 with 8 gb ram, 2 hdds (1tb sata & 40 gb pata) & sata dvd drive ... 1 tb sata has win 7 & 40 gb pata has xp installed ... use both drives separately ... i disconnect sata & use this pata drive only for net downloading ...

yesterday i got a new PSU, installed it ... bt now bios doesnt recognise my pata drive ... as this wasnt the case day-before ... what should i do to get it recognised ??? its working/spining ... if connected as slave, it doesnt even showup in win 7 ...

bios is old (1998-2009) ... has options like (on chip sata mode = disable, auto, combined, enhanced, non-combined)

You can try to load defaults in BIOS (either first screen or exit menu). Make sure to note current SATA mode, boot order etc.

It is worrying that it is not detected in BIOS, maybe the data cable is getting old and something broke while changing the power cord. Try reseating the data cable on both sides anyway. Or change it if you have a spare cable lying somewhere.

On a side note, you could use a Virtual PC software within Win7 to accomplish the same. Either XP or a Linux distro.

Sounds like the data cable (wide ribbon cable) probably got disconnected or partially disconnected when the new power supply was installed. Check both ends of the data cable - at the motherboard and at the PATA drive. Also check the power connection, since the power supply was replaced maybe the power for the PATA drive was not connected.

ide cable was not getting plugged properly so just pressed it inside & jumper setting changed to cable (earlier it was on master) ...

now its getting recognised ...
