(if the sub-forum is wrong place for the thread, sorry; mods/admin move accordingly)

I have W7 RTM new install, which boots fine as long as an old HDD is NOT connected to a PCI IDE Controller Card. If I plug in the HDD, W7 will not load.

It WILL boot with the Card plugged in, but will NOT with a drive plugged into the Card

Now that I remember, W7 would not INSTALL when I had the old drive plugged in to the PCI Card.

------------------------------------------------

CPU is older AMD 2-Core...

Hardware / HDD setup =
IDE Primary - DVD on Master, S'Gate 250 G Slave
SATA 1 - WD 500 G (with W7 RTM)
PCI IDE Controller Card with a Maxtor 80G

BIOS Settings =
Boot Device Order = ODD 1st, WD 500 G = 2nd
HDD Order = WD 500 G 1st, SG 250 2nd, 3rd Device DISABLED

----------------------------------------------------

W7 it seems is seeing itself 'out of disk order' somehow.

One clue, perhaps; W7 AFTER booting (with NO PCI / IDE HDD plugged in), DOES see the PCI / IDE Card. ???

Anyone?

The problem is HDD enumeration by BIOS. Apart from Disk / Boot Device Priority, I cannot find a BIOS setting for this...

I DO believe BIOS is doing enumeration with the PCI / IDE Card disk set up as a RAID disk by default, but I can't find RAID Enable / Disable in BIOS either..........................
