I have a pretty serious problem that I was hopeing someone could help me with. I have an acer aspire one netbook D250. I tried to update the bios. When I ran the bios update utillity, my computer locked up. none of the buttons would work, nor the keyboard. Everything was unresponsive, and not like a normal software hang either. So, I waited for a half hour to see what would happen, and nothing happend. I eventually removed the battery to turn off the computer and restart. Only problem is, my computer won't restart. As a matter of fact it doesn't do anything. No lights, no sounds, not even a battery charger light. I went to acer site and found some instructions to fix my netbook, which said to unplug power cord and remove battery then hold power for 30 sec, but still not working.

Please help!!!!

Do the cmos reset again (unplug, remove battery, hold power button) sometimes it takes several attempts

OK, we can try recover, but no guarantees. Before doing this make sure your netbook is capable of booting from a usb flash drive. If it is, go into the bios settings and set usb flash drive as the first boot device.

1) The latest bios for D250 netbook is available on the following page. Download it from there if you havent already.

Acer Support - Download Drivers

2) Save the file on your hard drive. Its a zipped file, so you'll need an app like 7zip or Winzip or winrar to unpack it. You can download a trial copy of winrar from www.rarlabs.com.

3) Then go the folder where you extracted and navigate to the folder called "DOS". There are 3 files in it- Flashit (the flashing executable), KAV60 (a batch file) and KAV60.fd (the actual bios file).

4) Make a bootable usb thumb drive using the procedure given below.

How to format a USB memory key

This procedure utilizes the HP format utility, which I prefer. But you can make one even without that.

How To make Bootable USB

5) Copy the files in the DOS folder to the root of the bootable thumb drive you just created. Make sure you dont mess up file names, dont create any folder or sub-folder.

6) Boot from the flash drive, at the prompt, type the following:

KAV60.BAT

Hit Enter.

After the bios flash, the computer will auto-restart or you may have to restart manually.

did not work then you will not be able to fix your laptop. You will have to send it in for repair. Since the BIOS update did not take the machine cannot do anything because the BIOS is what starts the machine.

Sorry to hear about that, from time to time it happens. I have had a bad BIOS flash happen twice in my carrer and it is painful.

I think your machine can boot from usb, so give the procedure I detailed earlier a spin.

Another thing you can do:

Boot from the usb drive you made in my earlier post. Then, DISCONNECT the battery but leaving the AC adapter connected. Press Fn+Esc, keep it pressed and press the power button to turn the machine on. Release Fn+Esc after a few seconds. Press power button if it begins to blink, otherwise do nothing. The machine should now initiate the BIOS flash.

Did you try with the bootable USB and the FN-Esc keys? If that too does not work, I'm afraid either your mobo is dead or you need handholding. In that case, take it to an Acer service center. I dont think bad flashes are covered by warranty but you can explore, provided your machine is still under warranty.
