Hello,
I've downloaded BIOS version P01.B1 for my gateway dx4831-07 from the official site and installed following the instructions.
Installation was successful but now windows locks up at the "starting windows" screen. I can only access on safe mode. I've tried putting the Windows 7 Home Premium x64 Installation disk. Once booted from the DVD it started loading the windows files, and then it locks up again at the windows logo screen.

I did the SF_Diagnostic_Tool I uploaded the rar archive like in the instructions: http://www.sevenforums.com/joinsevenforums.php?do=addmember

Hi JohnyDale, Welcome to Sevenforums.

1. Well since you're getting to the Windows boot menu, your BIOS is recognizing and reading the drive. I think its possible that the BIOS change could require new Windows driver(s) to use, but safe mode should overlook that. Have you tried booting off any other devices and see if you can still access/read the drive?

2. It can be a issue with the BIOS update. The workaround is to change the Boot speed setting in Bios to "normal" instead of the default "fast"
So..
Press and hold the F2 button, then power on the Unit. That should bring up the BIOS, from there you should see a setting under the Advanced tab called boot speed, just set it to normal and you should be able to load windows normaly

3. Try to boot from DVD and do system repair.

If all fails. Do a http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1649-clean-install-windows-7-a.html, install all the drivers again. That will fix the issue.

So the question is why did you update the bios? Was there an issue beforehand? Did you check that setting?

I was looking for a way to resolve an issue. My 64 bit windows was saying that of 8 gigs of RAM only 3.90 were usable... And some people said this could have been fixed by updating Bios
