I would check with Toshiba on your specific make and model and see if there is a BIOS update available.

Did you compare the version number of the new BIOS to what is already on the PC? maybe it already has the latest version? How much RAM is installed? SATA hard drive? If yes you may want to see what mode its set to in BIOS. If its in IDE mode switching to AHCI may speed things up. You have to make a registry edit if you switch to AHCI though or windows won't boot up. So just check to see what mode its set to first. The BIOS boot order etc can slow things down too if its not set to the hard drive as first device.

I think your slow start and shutdown has more to do with the software running at boot time (which also need closing down before shutdown can complete).

Can you post a screen shot of this,
go to the start menu and type msconfig in the run line, press enter a panel will arrive, click the tab for start up and we can see what's going on.

Only update your Bios because you need to take advantage of a hardware fix or OS compatibility, there are other far safer things you can do and I don't believe it will make the slightest difference.

BTW if was designed to run Vista it will be fine with Win7.

Hi,

That hardware should be capable of running Windows 7. In the Services tab of MSCONFIG uncheck everything except the Microsoft services, then click Apply and reboot your system. Does it startup any quicker?

Regards,
Golden

What anti-virus is installed?

Please run the following to gather information about your start-up time - do NOT apply the fixes! Simply let it run, then post back the information here.

Yep!!! Thats why I asked about the anti-virus you were using.............uninstall Norton, and replace it with free MSE.

Now does your PC startup/shutdown any quicker?

Golden
