I've been digging through my game library in order to offset monotony, and just installed Bioshock. The installation went as would be expected, and the game started out okay, but when coming upon the very first mutant, which fled up and wall from a flying robot, the game persistently crashing, just as Atlas begins to speak.

From what I've read elsewhere, the game should work on W7. The only issues that I've read about were that C++ Redist x64 had to be installed (I've got about every flavor of that I know of), and that DX9 was required, but the autoupdate seemed to have installed that during the setup. I set the compatility to Vista SP2, but that didn't help. What else can I try to make it work?

Start with updating your drivers - use the guide in my sig. Does your setup have enough cooling and is everything seated properly?

Looking further, even though the autopatcher said that it was installing DX9, I found no mention of it in Programs and Features, and running dxdiag said that it was DX11, so I don't know what happened there.

I've got the next to last Nvidia driver installed, but I will update it anyway. Plenty of cooling, the components are singing sweetly together.

Thanks, but I found the problem. I had a No CD patch installed, and when I went back to the original .exe, the problem disappeared. Now I have to find a different patch for it.

You could use Daemon tools to rip the disc as .iso and mount it.

I am having the same issue with GRAW 2. The game loads, and the intro movie plays perfectly, but as soon as the map starts to load, the game crashes. I just updated the Nvidia drivers for my 8800 GTX, and I have the latest C++ Redistributables installed. To my knowledge all drivers are current, but I am a bit questionable on chipset drivers. I am running a Gigabyte EP45-UD3R Mobo with a Duo Core Zeon E3110 Processor and 8GB of Corsair 800MHz RAM. Anything else I might check?

Thanks!

EP45 would be a P45 chipset. Go to Intel's website and check there. Use the guide in my sig. Did you run Driver Sweeper? Have enough cooling? Everything seated properly?

I am actually at Intel's right now looking for the P45/43 drivers. I have a massive Zalman cooler, a really well vented case and I rechecked all components for seating, etc. I really have no problems with anything else running on this box... just a couple of games. Although it has slowed down a bit since the OS install, which leads me to suspect the chipset drivers. I looked through my Windows Updates, and didn't see many hardware updates, either.

Thanks very much for the quick reply, and I'll post up another reply after chipset drivers are done.

OK, chipset drivers were up to date, but I reinstalled them anyway, just for grins. Still had the same crash at the same point. All of the patches have been applied to GRAW 2, as well. Here is what I am seeing after the crash:

Crash in application version: 30899.3048

Hmmm, access violation, try right-clicking the shortcut and selecting run as administrator. Try the different compatibility modes too.
