Solved Bit of a headscratcher

I built a pc for a client last July and it's giving out regular BScreens.
I asked him to send me his bluescreen view and he's been getting the bluescreens practically from the
start (but never told me)


Can someone have a look at the dmp files please?

Suggest a memtest http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/105647-ram-test-memtest86.html to rule otu anything there - 8 passes at least any less and you may as well not bother.

Edit might be worth before doing that test reseating the sticks and cards cables etc

And, if the BSODs were not happening on your watch, find out quietly what was installed after your client received the computer. You are not blaming the client, you are simply trying to find out what was installed, 'cause not everything works well together. Certain software will "hate" certain hardware; some software will not play nice with other software. Some security and/or monitoring software does not play nice with every possible configuration.

Yes I agree with Roland just like some AV's don't like playing with certain software and something else I meant to mention earlier is that I do not like generic PSU's to be honest and you might just run htis out of curiosity
Using HW Info
PART A:
You can test the volts on the PSU with HW Info HWiNFO, HWiNFO32/64 - Download < download the right bit version and close the right hand window select Sensors and scroll down to the power section where you will see what the volts are doing see my pic. In my pic the section (Nuvoton) with VBATT is a dead give away you are in the section for the rail voltages. There are other section titles and one that pops up often is ITE
Now the voltage on the different rails have to be within 5% =+/- of what is required or the machine will not work properly if at all.
Limits +/-
12v = 11.4 – 12.6v
5v = 4.74 – 5.25v
3.3v = 3.135 – 3.465v
The Power good signal voltage at pin 8 on the 24 pin plug (grey cable) should be the same as the 5v rail reading/s

The original right hand window shows the machine running and is handy for that but for looking at the components in some detail close it and use the main left hand side panel

PART B:
Open each small square with + in it on the section the components are in and then click on the individual component/s (it will highlight in blue) - in the right hand side will appear all sorts of details including brands speeds and other essential info that particular device. See pic for example.

Thanks folks, I'll do the memtest first as suggested.

I've got a horrible feeling niggling the back of me mind that I had a bit of an issue with the memory at the time of the build.
It was (I think) 2 x 8Gb matched sticks of Crucial and either stick was fine in any slot but both together caused a problem
I think I relaxed the memory timings a bit to sort it out.
I'll update the bios when I get the machine back and see if that helps and check the timings.
Any other advice?

Mike mate just check out the slots that board requires you to use first as they use use channels ie1&3 or 2&4 then the other slots after that. So using slot 1&2 could cause a problem or issues see this

I'm going to have a look at the pc next week but he's had 2 crashes today (but only sent me 1 logfile)

It is recommended to remove AI Suite 3 to ensure it doesn't cause any problems while troubleshooting.

Since the last BIOS update there have been 2 updates released giving more system stability, it is recommended to keep current with the BIOS updates.

It is memory corruption that occurs due to the reference of an invalid memory address by the Nvidia display drivers.
Please uninstall everything of Nvidia using Display Driver Uninstaller and install new drivers from Nvidia. Be sure the clean install box is checked and only install the Graphics driver and the PhysX driver.

Ok mate now I think axe is on track there but I still think the memtest is worth doing - overnight would be a good time even if only to rule out any memory problems.

Well, he had a week or so without crashes so I was keeping me fingers crossed.
Then he had another today.

If removing AVG doesn't help then you should let him run a memory diagnostics test

Run MemTest86+ to analyse your RAM. MemTest86+ - Test RAM - Windows 7 Forums

   Note

MemTest86+ needs to be run for at least 8 complete passes for conclusive results. Set it running before you go to bed and leave it overnight. We're looking for zero errors here. Even a single error will indicate RAM failure.

Make a photo of the result and post it.

Addition:
If errors show up you can stop the test, remove all sticks but 1 and test this single stick in each slot for 8 passes or until errors show, switch sticks and repeat.
If errors show up and you see them a lot later, no problem, the errors don't affect the test.

As before mate go with axe but please 8 passes minimum unless errors come up straight away or quickly then you can stop it and try and track down the bad stick and even sometimes a bad slot. Tracking the sticks down can be tedious if you have more than two but worth it and the AVG same as axe has said mate just get rid of the crap.. Remember to use the removal tool Download tools and utilities | AVG and I always check in regedit (run as admin) for leftovers even so because it has nasty habit of leaving remnants in there HKEYS LOCAL_MACHINE & CURRENT_USER > Software and just right click on the main entry and delete if you are not confident enough to do that just ask and if you are I alwasy back up the reg before just in case I hit the wrong entry http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/4230-registry-backup-restore.html

Update.

The memmtest showed errors fairly quickly on one of the 8Gb sticks.
I sent it back for replacement and the pc has not crashed in 3 weeks.
