BitLocker Password

Hello Friends


I just Re-Install WINDOWS 7 Ultimate on my HP G62 , when ever i try to unlock my USB flash drive it do not ask for password instead it ask for recovery key which i do no t have, How can i access to my files on the drive. I have password with me.

Hello yousafali, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You might see if you may be able to use step 2 in the tutorial below with your BitLocker password to recover your BitLocker drive.

H is my Flash Drive and G is system reserved Disk, below is the result of the Command.

You just made a small mistake in the command. For your drive letters, you should use this command below instead. The F at the end of the command needs to remain an F. Only the red letters in the tutorial are to be substituted with the drive letters.

repair-bde H: G: -pw -F

In that case, post a screenshot showing the full layout of your G: drive to see if it is able to be used to save the contents of the H: drive locked by BitLocker to.

G: is system drive, and you will not be able to use G to copy the decrypted contents of H to. Plus, I doubt that G: would be large enough to hold H: even if you were able to.

You'll need to use another drive like E: or another external hard drive instead. Be warned that whatever you use will be wiped out in the process when saving the decrypted files from H: to it.

Here "I" is is my encrypted disk and "H" is the disk to copy decrypted data.

The problem is that the -pw switch for the repair-bde command is only available in Windows 8.

You might see if you may be able to use step 2 in OPTION TWO of the tutorial below instead.

Try again in an "elevated" command prompt (click on link) instead.

Just opening a command prompt while logged in as an administrator doesn't make it an elevated command prompt. You'll need to do what's in the link above to right click "Run as administrator" to do so instead.

You might try again in case you may have made a mistake entering the password. The password is case sensitive.

I do not think i forgot my password if so happened then ?

Since you do not have a backup of the recovery key or startup key for the USB encrypted by BitLocker to use to recover it, then you may be pretty much out of luck.

Unfortunately, that's the whole point of BitLocker. No key = no access.

If the data is really important, you could try using a professional data recovery service to retrieve the data, but it's not cheap to do so.

You of course could format the USB to be able to use it again, but you will lose all current data on it as well.

Hi, I have the same problem with windows7 bitlocker now.. can you please tell me how you recovered the data..?
When i used manage-bde to try unlocking it , it just takes forever to show any result .
