Hi All,

Should I enable bitlocker to go on a USB thumbdrive and then use it on a Windows XP machine, I can only read the files in the thumndrive using a Bitlocker reader, but not able to copy the files to my Desktop, neither can I able to move files to my encrpyted thumdrive?

Can someone verify this for me.

Thanks!

Hi zohan00 and welcome to the Forum.
Not sure what you are trying to do. You have files on a thumbdrive that are locked, yes? Bitlocker reader will only do what is says on the tin, allow you to read the files. You cannot copy them to another location.
What are the files and where did they come from?

Mitchell, thanks for your welcome message.
My thumbdrive is not locked.
The filies are in my thumbdrive.
As I do not have my Win 7 machine with me now, so I'm wondering if there is any way to copy the files from the thumbdrive to my Win XP desktop and vice versa.

Are we talking about two thumbdrives here? One you say is encrypted. This being so you will not be able to copy from that nor add files to it. That's the idea of encryption, to stop you doing just that. You say the files are not locked so why do you need Bit locker? I'm guessing that the files are games and that they came on the thumbdrive. Is that correct? Or did you encrypt the drive?

It is only 1 thumbdrive.
I have turn on bitlocker to go my thumbdrive, so it is encrypted. Well, they are some MS office files which I like to write on them and also need to copy some other files to my thumbdrive.
I have googled and they mention that it is not possible to write any files on a bitlocker thumbdrive from a Win XP machine and have to do it on a Win 7 PC.
I'm just wondering whether anyone will have a workaround on the bitlocker thumbdrive in a Win XP machine.
