Hi folks, new user here. Hopefully someone can help me with this. So here's the situation: I am using ConTEXT editor to write script for photoshop. Everything is going along normally, until I save the script. I saved it to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop\Presets\Scripts\script.jsx. Now, that file is there - I can see it in ConTEXT's file dialog, I can exit out of ConTEXT, restart the program and then load the file back up. But in Windows Explorer, nothing. It just straight up doesn't exist. I don't have anything hidden in Explorer options, that I know of anyway. That file should be there. I also created a new directory in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop\Scripting\ (again, in the ConTEXT file dialog) called Mine, and saved the file there as well. And it doesn't show up in Explorer. Can someone explain to me what is going on here? Thanks!

Try saving to a folder not under Program Files. Like C:\MyFiles. See if Explorer shows it.

Huh. I could save it to My Documents, but when I save it to the root of C: I don't see it in Exploder. This is so weird. Even if I run a command prompt in admin mode I can't see it. What the world?!

Did you go in Folder options (write it in the Start search box to find it quick) and in the view tab did you try tick "show hidden files folders and drive" and untick "Hide Protected operating system files"?

Is your account in the Admistrator's group? Or is it some lowly user account?

Perhaps the app is set by it's installer to be run As Administrator. It can see it's data files because it has priviledges. I'm just guessing here.

Thanks for the reply. If that were the case then I should be able to see the files in a command prompt run as admin, right? I don't know, I wouldn't think ConTEXT was set to always run with admin rights but I'll check.

EDIT: As for my user account, it's an admin account.

See if this will show your 'saved' files ... Unhide.exe (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/grinler/unhide.exe) (by Grinler)
Once the program has been downloaded, double-click on the Unhide.exe icon on your desktop and allow the program to run. This program will remove the +H, or hidden, attribute from all the files on your hard drives.

If there are any files that were purposely hidden by you, you will need to hide them again after this tool is run."

Alright this one is easy. You likely have UAC on, even tho you are part of the Administrators group you are not giving administrator power unless you reply to an UAC prompt. ConText is not running with administrator power. When you try and save a file to a location that does not have write access. Instead of getting an error, it gets redirected to C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore. Now anything using the proper APIs would see this file. However if the file already exists in the location, that one will be used.

When working with files in locations other then your user directory, save the file some where in your folder, then move it to the original location.

logicearth, thanks for explanation. That was it. Amazing, I didn't know about this behavior. Now what bothers me is that Microsoft nor ConTEXT decided to put in any kind of notification that UAC was taking over in this case. Oh well, live and learned and I learned a big one today. Thanks again!
