Bizarre Network/Driver/Usb Issue

Good morning everyone,

I am posting to relate a very strange issue that has plagued me on and off for the last couple of years. I am using Windows 7 on a self built rig which has by and large operated problem free on the whole since build. The version is x64, and has been purchased.

Around six months after the build I started having issues with the network adapter. I went through the usual motions of checking driver fidelity, keeping everything up to date, making sure the wireless receiver which is an Asus folding card (with three gold prongs) was plugged in etc.

Intermittently, and usually after a restart, the computer would come back on and windows would boot as usual but there would be no internet. The adapter wasnt even recognised, just the small box with a red cross next to it.

I searched for suggestions, restarting fixed it sometimes, now and then opening the device manager and disabling and re-enabling the device would fix it, but then there were times nothing worked. I got so sick and tired of it so I bought a Foktek wifi USB device and that basically bypassed the issue... until recently...

Now I am having experienced where even the USB device that's plugged in is suddenly disconnecting from the network and I am having to troubleshoot in order to have it self-resolve.

I thought having some startup programs might have been causing the issue as the wifi would routinely fail to kick in alongside Steam which; every time the wifi had an issue; and I used the USB device instead, would open with the daily deal popup.

I have no idea if this would be even remotely related but I thought it best to include it anyway. I am at my wits end with the weird issue, and since it's a multi-pronged thing with the driver, the wifi, and the weird usb device behaviour, I wasn't really sure where to post.

I welcome any moderator moving this to the relevant section, and would like to thank you all in advance for taking the time to read this, and for any help and advice you can offer me. If you need anything, let me know what it is and how to get it to you, and I will make it happen asap.

Cheers.

I'll look over this later on. Just posting here to add this thread to my subscriptions and to let you know.

In the meantime, some questions:

Does the USB adapter also show a red cross? Or are you seeing a yellow exclamation mark?

Do other devices/computers work on the Internet?

What is the make and model of modem or router or both? If both are used, is the router in bridging mode?

The red cross indicates to me a driver issue. Or a hardware issue. Either with the device its self or the computer. Possible driver conflicts. Possible TCP/IP stack shenanigans. Open command prompt and enter one at a time. tcp-ip-reset/source at main . 737simpilot/tcp-ip-reset . GitHub
