Bizarre WiFi Error

Hi folks

Hope someone can help with this 'cos it is driving me mad.

WIn 7 HP desktop pc. Wireless adapter (Belkin N150) will not see any devices - e.g. wireless router or either of my wireless printers. Can't ping router - all I get is "PING: transmit failed. General failure."

Worked OK previously although in an odd kind of way.

Back in Nov 2017, the wireless adapter stopped connecting to the internet & router.

I tried to fix it but couldn't.

HOWEVER, plugging a Cat5 cable from router to pc (they are next to each other on my desk) allowed me to connect to the internet and print wirelessly to both of my WiFi printers.

I bought a replacement WiFi dongle (Belkin N150 micro USB adapter) but didn't use it as I found that I could print wirelessly in the meantime.

This worked until today (7th Feb 2018). I pulled the WiFi adapter out of the USB socket to use in an old laptop that doesn't have wireless built in. I also took out the Cat5 cable. When I put the WiFi adapter back into the desktop pc, I was back to not being able to connect. No problem I thought, I'll use the new adapter.

Followed the install of the drivers for the new adapter and all seemed to install OK.

I still can't connect wirelessly however.

I have tried (from an elevated command) "ipconfig/release" and "ipconfig/renew". Also "ipconfig/flushdns", "netsh winsock reset catalog", "netsh int ip reset c:\tcp.txt" and "netsh int ip reset reset.log hit".

Typing in ipconfig/all shows no primary DNS has been assigned.

Both the pc and the router have been power cycled.

It is something to do with this pc as several other wireless laptops, ipads and iphones (and the two wireless printers) can wirelessly connect to the router and the laptops and ipads/iphones can also connect via WiFi to the internet.

The wireless icon in the System Tray shows a red 'X' and Network Sharing Center says that there are 'No Connections Available'.

This post has been written on the problematic desktop pc which is connected to the router via the aforementioned Cat5 cable.

Just to highlight the problem, when I plugged the Cat5 cable in, I could again WIRELESSLY print to both WiFi printers !!! W.T.F.?

Also tried a System Restore back to last November - but that hasn't sorted out the problem either!

Please help if you can before I find either a sledgehammer for the pc or a gun for me!

One thing that is immediately evident to me is that the Wireless AutoConfig Service (wlansvc) is not running.

As you say no wireless service running as there is no wireless adapter showing I wonder what the antivirus adapter is and if that's turned it off and replaced it I would try removing av for now. Does the wireless adapter showing device manager?

No idea what the antivirus adapter is either.
