I am running Compaq Presario CQ61 using AMD M880G with ati Mobility Radeon HD 4200.

I am trying to run certain games on full screen and I get these two black bars on the side of the screens. One emulator I used was "Project 64" and I set some options to make it exactly full screen and it worked.

But as for most PC games like Sims won't really work. Is there something wrong with my graphics card?

it's probably the games' settings.
Some games only run in full screen 4:3 mode.

With a notebook it's quite often the manufacturers supplied drivers that have GPU scaling to full panel size enabled by default.

There may be a setting for GPU Scaling

CCC - Desktop & Displays - Right click the small image of your laptop at the bottom - Configure - Attributes - Scaling options - Full Screen.

If it was a desktop, you would activate GPU scaling by temporarily drop down to the resolution you are going to game at then-

CCC - Desktop & Displays - Right Click small monitor at bottom - Configure - Attributes -Tick Enable GPU scaling - Scale image to full panel.

This works well with DX9. Once set you can return to your monitors native resolution. With DX10 & 11, you have to start the game when the Desktop is at the lower 4:3 resolution.

Ok, that worked, my games are in full screen the way I wanted. But why is it that it keeps exiting out of full screen in 2 seconds?
