Black screen after installation

Good news. After running chkdsk and getting no errors, switching video cards, and trying to do the windows 7 repair, i decided to reinstall XP so I could update my BIOS. Well MSI makes this awesome little utility that basically scans my motherboard and tells me what i need. After i that, the bios was updated and I was able to reinstall windows 7 in less than 30 minutes! hallelujah!!!

Hi guys,

same problem with windows 7 64 bits. I spent a week or so trying different options (BIOS, putting my 8800GTS on the other PCI-E slot, many many drivers, etc etc). I finally tried to connect my PC to my LCD TV and it worked. Still nothing on my monitor though. I finished the installation using the TV (20 minutes max), so I'm now able to see something on my monitor only when I start in safe mode.
Also, when the computer is on, with an image on the TV only, I can swap the DVI connection (monitor on the DVI port where the TV was connected), and it works. But then, if I restart the computer, black screen again.
My monitor is getting a signal, but screen remains black.

So for now, my computer is connected to my LCD in the living room, and my "office" is empty. I have tried to configure the output on both TV+monitor, or monitor only, but same problem...

I havn't tried to disconnect the RAM yet (I use 4 * 1 Go, Corsair XMS PC6400). Will do it tonight!

Have you looked at Device Manager to see if there are any yellow triangles?

Re-install your graphics card driver.

Not sure if you're saying your going to re-install Win7 but if you are try it with one RAM card.

Does your graphics card have a VGA connection? If it does disconnect your DVI cable, we've seen problems caused by the DVI cable being used.
If you have on board graphics, take the graphics card out.
If no on board graphics or VGA, then try to borrow a graphics card with a VGA connection.
Any over clocking of the GPU, CPU or RAM? Set everything to default, you can change it back after the install.

Device manager is fine. Regarding the drivers, I'm using the WDDM1.1 installed by W7, but I also tried the 191.07 from nvidia, even the beta Forceware 195, and tried to roll back to 181.. or earlier drivers.
Regarding the installation, I was thinking of starting the computer with one RAM card, not reinstalling the whole stuff.

My graphic card has no VGA output. I'm using a DVI output with a DVI/VGA connector (monitor is VGA only). I will try to find a VGA card (shouldn't be that complicated).

About the BIOS/overclocking/etc, everything is set to default. Latest BIOS from ASUS is installed.

Again, when connected to my LCD TV, evertyhing runs smoothly, and the WOW colors are just great. I could buy a new monitor... Mine is a Sony Trinitron E500 (CRT).

I think it is a shame to go through all this mess with a brand new product. I had the same problem using the beta, then the RC version when installed from scratch. I solved it by upgrading from Vista only (it was a RC, so problems were acceptable). This time, I've tried both a clean installation and an upgrade, using either the 64 bits or the 32 bits version, with a black screen as the only result.

9600 gt...

I have the same video card and just cleaned installed Win 7 x64 with no problems and am running the latest nVidia driver 285.62 along with 3D Vision Driver 285.62 and Phys-X 9.11.0621 and am having no problems running the latest versions...
