I just bought a gtx 970 to replace the 9750. I did a new install on a new ssd. I installed all the appropriate mobo drivers and now it's time to install the geforce drivers. I shut off the computer, connected the 6pins to the video card, and made sure the video card is secure seated. Turned on the computer and noticed the post screen, but it lingers for a while then I get a black screen. I'm not able to enter the BIOS.

Could this be a faulty video card?

Hi,
Could be which exact brand and model 970 ?
Looks like the board has on board graphic's so remove it and use that
GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket 1155 - GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 (rev. 1.0)
Look at the pci-e slot for damaged pins.

Evga gtx 970 hybrid.
Problem persists when I use the video card.

I just bought it from ncix so I contacted them instead. First technician said it was defective. Second technician blamed my PSU then my mobo. The video output on my mobo works find though so I'm not even sure any more.

If I'm understanding the sequence of things.

You can use the motherboard video and use the computer.
Is that correct?

If that is correct set your bios to default while you are using on board video.
Shut down your computer.
Installed your new video card and install the cables back to your video card.
Boot and see if anything appears on the screen. "Anything"
If nothing appears on the screen, shout down the computer.
Install your old video card with cables and try again.

Let us know what happens.

By chance have you done any motherboard bios updating?

Yeah you got it. The last time I updated the BIOS was probably just over a year ago. Haven't checked for any more updates. I've reset the BIOS while troubleshooting and it didn't affect anything.

During this time, I've left my computer at an NCIX shop for the techs to look at. Yesterday he said the gpu works on his test bench and my PSU isn't working properly. I bought a new PSU to find that it didn't fix anything. He called earlier today after his diagnosis testing thingy and he said he got an error on the mobo for a faulty pcie slot. Doesn't make sense to me because the 7950 I'm trying to replace worked perfectly fine before this situation.

I always try to remember that their might be more than one problem.

Let us know that the computer shop figures out.

Did you try my suggestions?
One can damage a pci-e slot by installing a video card improperly.

One can damage a pci-e slot by installing a video card improperly.

I went to visit the shop with my 7950 and it worked perfectly. The tech concluded it was a compatibility issue due to BIOS or something. He basically said the gpu is too new for my i5 2500k rig. Not sure about you guys, but that sounds crazy to me.

I ended up buying new parts for a new computer. Hoping it's a hassle free solution.
