Windows 7 used to work just fine on my HP Pavilion zd8000 laptop, until a few weeks ago suddenly it decided to go into black screen mode whenever I start up. The "windows is starting" icon shows, then it goes black... i hear the little jingle, but the screen is still dead. I have tried all the fixes, including setting it back to a previous date, etc. Finally I gave up on all that and reinstalled everything. It worked okay until it finished all the updates, and then the same thing happened again. This sucks. Now its back to Ubuntu for me on my trustee little Toshiba. Windows, I give up!

Welcome

Did you do a clean install, incuding a format, if not go that route

If yes,
It may be hardware related.

Did you install the chipset drivers, followed by other drivers BEFORE Windows updates? It could also be early signs of hardware failure.

:DTry to update the BIOS too :D
Also, run system file check to see if everything is ok
Go to start-->type in search box 'cmd' and run it as administrator-->in cmd window command type in sfc /scannow (space between sfc and /)
I hope it's not hardware failure, what a waste!!!
Also, when u update driver, don't use automatically update function of device manager. Instead, un-install device drivers from device manager, then download and install fresh copy of the driver
Good Luck
