Black screen after windows loading screen

While browsing screen went black and audio froze (loud high frequency repeating noise). Restarted system and windows suggest to perform startup repair before loading. Performed it but it says it cannot fix all errors. Windows will show the loading screen but it never logs on, screen turns black and keyboard lights are not responsive (num. etc).
Created a system repair disk on another computer, ran repair from there, but it did not solve the problem.
I can enter windows in safe mode, writing this from there.

No new hardware added or software installed before this happened.

My uninformed assumption is that the 5-year old SSD is failing.

What is the best route to take?

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
I would guess it would be a graphic's card driver if safe mode with networking is working.

Remove the graphic's card after uninstalling the driver
Connect using on board graphic's and see what happens.

Either way safe mode with networking uses minimal drivers and installed software
Post a uninstall a program screen shot here.

The problem has worsened, after a chdsk run safe mode stops loading once it reaches ' aswRvrt.sys'.

The hard disk test in the BIOS gave me a read failure error.

I cannot remove the graphics card since it's a laptop.

Your 1st assumption may very well be correct :(

Are you saying the diagnostic screen never gave you the option to start windows normally ?

I do get the 'start windows normally' option, but it leads me to an unresponsive black screen after the windows loading screen.

I will try to boot from a live cd and see if I can access the files/ run a hard drive test.

Hi Jerry,
On a side note looking at your MXdiag, its showing a Volume licence server activation setting, which it cannot reach, was the report run under Safe mode?? or safe mode with networking.

Black screens, with the above are the norm, BUT NOT the sounds.
(IM assuming you moved to the VLK when you installed the SSD.

The report was generated from within safe mode with networking. System is running on a VLK.

I am now suspecting the GPU is the problem. Is it possible that the windows loading screen and safe mode don't use hardware acceleration? It seems once that is required to kick in the screen goes black.

Live booted a different OS and it only ran with ' software rendering, with the CPU doing the GPUs work.

The SSD seems fine. Different tests tell me it is OK, 16484 bad sectors, bad it appears to be below the threshold.

Is there a way to confirm the GPU is the problem?
