Hi there.

My PC is currently crashing without a BSOD when playing games. The screen just goes black, but my computer stays on. I have to power it off manually with the power button. I've previously had issues with BSODs showing an error with atikmdag.sys , but they were very infrequent. This type of crash has been happening multiple times a day.

Thank you so much for your help!

Hello Duecez.

A stop 0x116 is a graphics related error. And for it, you need to follow the guide: http://www.sevenforums.com/crash-lo...op-0x116-video_tdr_error-troubleshooting.html

Uninstall Avast using Avast Uninstall Utility. Use Microsoft Security Essentials as your antivirus with windows inbuilt firewall, and free MBAM as the on demand scanner.
Download, install and update those, and then run full system scans with both of them, one by one.

Daemon Tools, Alcohol 120% and Power Archiver Pro uses SCSI Pass Through Direct (SPTD), which is a well known BSOD causer. Uninstall Daemon Tools at first. Then download SPTD standalone installer from Disk-Tools.com, and execute the downloaded file as guided below :

  • Double click to open it.
  • Click this button only:
  • 2012-12-13_224441.jpg
  • If it is grayed out, as in the picture, there is no more SPTD in your system, and you just close the window.
Let us know the results.

Alright, I took care of Avast and Daemon Tools and have still been having the crashes.

They have gotten much worse in the last few days. Sometimes the computer won't come on at all.

I believe I've found at least one of the problems, and have done what I could to alleviate it. In the event viewer prior to some of the crashes it says that "System shutdown due to graphics card overheating". I took the card out and cleaned it with compressed air as well as the inside of the fan. Despite that I'm still having crashes related to this when doing anything intensive on the GPU. I'm currently running a fan next to the PC and the GPU is staying at around 50 - 60 C when just using my web browser.

Is there anything further that I can do for it or do I just need to RMA my GPU?

You may upload the new dumps here, so that we can have a look.

Also, Stress test the Graphics Card using Furmark.
Video Card - Stress Test with Furmark

If you see any artifacts during furmark, obviously RMA the GPU.

I ran the stress test twice and my PC crashed both times after the test had been running for 5 - 10 seconds.

What should I do now?

That means the GPU is not able to take any little stress.

RMA the GPU, as you planned :) Hopefully it will solve your issue.
