Hi guys,

My first post here, not sure if this is the right board, but hope someone can help!

I bought a new PC a week ago, and about once a day, it completely locks up. The screen goes into power save mode, sound goes off and the keyboard is non responsive (caps lock light not changing etc).

I have to press the power button to turn it off and back on again. The event log lists event ID 41, but I think thats from me turning the computer off and on again, rather than the freeze.

Basically I have no idea what the issue is, if its hardware or software. It happens seemingly randomly, sometimes ill just be on the internet, othertimes when I plug in my iPhone, or playing a game. I hope someone has some ideas of things to try or how to diagnose the issue.

Specs:
Windows 7 64 bit
Intel Core 2 Quad Q8300 @ 2.50ghz
4GB RAM
nVidia 1GB Graphics Card
1TB HDD

Things I have tried:
Updated all drivers
Plugged computer directly into wall socket rather than multiplug
Disabled power saving

Any suggestions or help would be much appreciated! I could probably take it back, but if it can be solved that would save me considerable hassle!

Thanks!

Crimsonmajor,

My recommendation to you as the owner of a week old laptop experiencing a myriad of problems, would be to seek advice under the warranty conditions that apply. The sooner the better.
