Black Screen on Boot

Alright, I have a bit of a situation here. On boot up, immediately after the "Windows is Starting" logo the screen goes black with only a mouse pointer. I have tried booting in Safe Mode, Last know good configuration, making sure that the HD is the first bootable option, trying from a restore point and tried using a Windows 7 Repair disk. No luck. Other people have had this issue and all of the solutions provided have not worked for me. I heard a rumor that it might be malware? Any suggestions?

This may be a stupid response, but I had a total brain fart one day and saw the same thing. If you are using two monitors, check to make sure they are both on and also check your connections to the monitor and video card. My primary and secondary monitors decided to swap on me, it took me an hour to figure that out one day. Drove me crazy. Just an initial item to check. Hope it helps.

Any changes or updates to do with vid card?
Can you enter BIOS?

Try and older CRT monitor if possible, if you can get a safe mode boot to OS, you can try a system restore.
Or uninstall the vid card driver in Device Manager. Try using windows default vid driver to see if that works.
Consider the vid card driver as well as the Syncmaster driver, if one available, when updating.

If you can get a boot to OS,



start>run>msconfig>boot tab>check safe boot and network. reboot

Maybe, somehow an incompatible refresh rate has happened. If a CRT is an option, and you get in, goto display and make sure refresh at defaults.

I couldn't even get into my OS. I don't think it had to do anything with my video card. I tried just about everything. I suppose that the OS was horribly confused and just didn't know what to do. I ended up connecting my HD to another computer and getting the files I needed off of there. I just reformatted and installed Win7 again.
