Hi,

My Windows 7 has stopped working

All I get after the bios starts up is a blank (black) screen and a white cursor.

I do not have a Windows 7 recovery disk and only a Windows Vista one. If I re-intsall Windows Vista I assume I will lose everything off my partition.

Can you tell me if I can fix my Windows 7 installation

If not can you tell me a way of not losing some sentimentally valuable files?

what info do you need?

Hi,

I will try the recovery tool you've suggested.

As for info, what info do you want or need?

At the moment I can press F2 or F12 to go to the bios setup. F12 allows me to boot from the cd/dvd drive. If I select to boot from the hard drive nothing happens apart from a black screen with a white cursor flashing in the top left hand corner.

I installed Windows 7 from the Microsoft website, but never made a recovery disk, it has now crashed so can't put one into the cd/dvd drive.

I have put in my windows vista one, but it can't repair the problem. owever it does recognise that there is a windows 7 operating system on the C drive.

The computer is an acer aspire 5920

If you want some info from the bios then let me know, but apart from ram etc. there is not much else I can provide

I would say, first order of the day is to recover your data. Then we'll see how to go from there.

problem with knoppix

Hi

Downloaded knoppix 6.0.1 it has loaded but only offering my documents, and I cannot see my hard drive, as it is written in the instructions.

Either I have not read followed them correctly or not downloaded the right one, or that this does not work so well with Windows 7 or another reason.

Any suggestions, and apologies if I'm being stupid

can view directories from command prompt

Hi

Put the Vista disk back in and managed to be able to view the c:\ directory using the command console. Not sure what to do from here. Can I manually load windows from here?

Is it possible to move files from here onto another partition (d:\) which I created

If I install Vista on the c:\ partition will it write over the d:z partition as well?

I'm not sure but try copy <source> <destination>. (copy filename.ext D:\)
It will not overwrite the files in drive D:.
