black screen with cursor

Hi guys, so after the welcome, only the cursor shows up and the screen is black. I tried to open explorer using the task manager but an error message shows up saying it cant find any file named explorer, same thing for regedit. When I open the regedt32 using the browse button it just disappears. I dont have the cd to reset the window and I have no idea how to do it. Can any help me please?
Oh and can you guys use simple words cause im a total newbie.
