Black Screen with mouse

1st post here so sorry if I don't give you all the info you need at 1st

Here are my specs


CyberpowerPC Gamer Xtreme 1012 Intel Core i7 920(2.66GHz) 6GB DDR3 1TB ATI Radeon HD 4830

I was running fine for about 2 or 3 months or so but last night after a slow down on comp I decided to restart my computer and that did not go so well and i ran into what is below



Here is my problem

I have a Black screen with a mouse cursor that I am able to move around.

I usually run on a dual monitor set up, but per some advice I have found on this site i went to a single one tried both ports on my vid card. That did not work.

Pressing control alt delete does nothing, same with shift 5 times in a row I don't even get a beep.


When I try a the windows 7 disk it looks like its working loads files and the such but then once it gets to the screen where you would normally select repair, install and the such. That window does not even pop up it just sits at the windows 7 desktop background, I don't even have mouse functionality.


So I now I am lost on what I need to do to get my system up and running again

Hi and welcome to the forums , if I were you I would start my computer in safe mode (tutorial at Safe Mode - Windows 7 Forums ) and do a system restore (tutorial at System Restore - How to - Vista Forums ) to before your PC went wrong.

Post back with any results.

Safe mode gets me the same black screen with mouse I don't even have Safemode in the corner.

I actually managed to get a restore point working on the f8 screen. Shutdown, hooked back up to orginal set up and everything seems to working fine. thanks osholt. Only lost about 2 days of work instead of 3 weeks.

I do think its kind of funny that the windows restore CD did nothing but i was able to get the f8 restore working.
