When I start my laptop I have been getting the black screen of death where it will say "windows is starting" and then the screen will go black for 5 or so minutes before I can log in. I can avoid this by hibernating instead of shutting down but now my windows desktop bar looks different and doesn't have that transparent Aero look. I right click on desktop and go to customize but it says I cant choose the Aero themes.
Forgive me, I am not incredibly computer savvy. Any help in the most simple way possible would be very appreciated.

Welcome to Seven Forums JulietAngel. Can you remember any changes you might have made before this issue began? Are you the only User of this laptop? Is your user an Administrator?

Do us a favor to help us help you and fill in your system specs

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/180324-system-info-see-your-system-specs.html

Make sure to fill in, or post which Antivirus you are using. Have a look at this hotfix, and see if it helps with your problem.

The desktop does not load and only displays a black or blue background after you log on to a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2

If not, I'd suggest a clean start to see if you have a conflict

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorial...ation-conflicts-performing-clean-startup.html

This is a good tutorial, and should be doable if you follow it to the letter, step by step.

Post back with answers to the first questions, and the result of the tutorial at least.
