Blank Page

Hi,

I have a problem concerning browsing a trusted website with IE8 in Windows 7, what I don't have in Windows XP or other internet browser in Windows 7.

1. The site is in "Trusted Websites"
2. Scripting, meta refresh, ect. is enabled.

The website is a "Collaboration meeting portal", which is started through a IM.
It looks like the redirect isn't working in Windows 7, cause it redirects to a blank page.

When I turn the "Internet Zone" security settings off, IE8 can redirect the page.
When I have the security settings on with debugger, I see that IE8 brakes the redirect script.
When I turn meta refresh off in the security settings, I get an Authentication error (what is normal).
What isn't normal is that all IE8 registry & security settings are the same as Windows XP but Windows 7 won't allow the redirect (only with internet security settings complete off).

This isn't just this site or computer it has to be a Windows 7 with IE8 problem
Because:
1. All settings are the same as Windows XP
2. Other browsers are not a problem
3. All Windows 7 PC's are having this problem (checked 8 PC's).

Please help me to solve this problem, but please don't come with answers like disabling AV/Firewall, delete cookies, etc.

...The site is in "Trusted Websites"...

That's odd. If the site is in the Trusted Category the "Internet Zone" should not matter since it is not in that zone. Maybe the full name of the site that you are being redirected to is not actually in the "Trusted" category, so it's being treated as in the "Internet Zone".

Not sure what you mean by "off". Perhaps you mean "low".

I know that it's odd. But this happends only in Windows 7.
And yes the zone is the trusted one (had even the green mark in the browser).

I have also placed the complete domain / subdomain in the trusted zone.
The settings are the same in IE8 in Windows XP, what does work.

I agree with your conclusion but would phrase it this way:
Problem = Windows 7 PC + IE8 + Your website + IE8 security Settings not turned completely off.

What I still don't understand is how do you turn IE8 security settings "completely off" (which fixes the problem).

Unchecked “Enable Protected Mode”

Hi,

I have disabled it in the IE8 "Security Settings" for the "Internet Zone", by de-selecting the option “Enable Protected Mode”.

This is the only option what worked. Setting the zone on low doesn't work.

Protected mode does not turn off all security. According to the help file:

"...In addition to helping protect your computer from malicious software, protected mode allows you to install wanted ActiveX controls or add-ons when you are logged in as an administrator. Protected mode is turned on by default in the Internet, intranet, and Restricted sites zones and an icon appears on the status bar to let you know that it's running."

Perhaps you have protected mode on and you are not running as admin. In that case you can't install ActiveX controls or any add-ons, which the web site wants to install.

I am a local Admin

Hi,

I am a local admin on the system.

And if you mean by completely disable the security, by disabling the UAC.

Guess...

This works too!

Yeah, it's just what I said a IE8 problem.

After searching around on google I may be have a solution for it, but it takes some time for testing.

If this is the solution, I will post it back here, cause more people are having the same trouble with IE8 & IE9.

Lucky for me that I'm a "open-source" guy.
That way I know for sure that the world is working on a fix, when a program has a bug.

No MS for me. I hate it that the customers use it, so I have to take this "trash"

I wouldn't use that phrase "completely disable security" since I don't think that's possible, even with UAC off. But apparently the particular website you are going to doesn't want "protected mode" to be on.
