Solved Blankscreen after "Installing Windows"

Have an old HP 5700 sff that originally came with windows 7 . I later installed Windows 10 and want to go back. After the win 7 installation disc loads and displays "Installing Windows" screen goes blank and machine seems to power down.
I can reinstall win10 and have installed numerous linux OSs with NO problems. ONLY windows 7 fails to install.

Simply AMAZING - the PC in question is my backup. I lately installed a monitor splitter to avoid having to reconnect the monitor every time I wanted to use the other PC. BAAAD IDEA!!! When I removed splitter and connected directly VOILA all was well. Win 7 installed NO problems.
