can somebody please help me?
i have a lenovo thinkpad edge 14" running 64-bit windows 7 home premium.
the laptop didn't come with any CD's, everything was pre-loaded on.

all i get when i boot it is a black screen with a blinking cursor , when it boots all it shows is the thinkpad splash screen then straight to the blinking cursor.

i have access to a lenovo x220 running the same (i.e. 64-bit win7 home premium) however no CD drive, the edge 14" does have a cd drive. looked at multiple articles on seven forums but none of them help because i dont have a cd burner.

is there any other fix available w/out me having to buy an external CD burner to connect to my x220 so i can do this fix:

Did you see a tutorial on creating a bootable Windows USB stick?
You may be able to create a System Repair USB stick using the same procedure.

I haven't had much luck with bootable USB sticks.

You might have to wait for one of the experts to get here. :(

ok purchased the external dvd burner and created the system repair disc. now it says to select your OS and click next, but no OS is listed for me to select and it tells me to load drivers for my hard disk. how the hell do i find drivers for my fujitsu 500gb 7200 RPM HDD?

Is your HDD model number listed in your BIOS?
Can you open the drive bay and read it off of the HDD?

If you can find it, you could try the manufacturer's website.

Wait a minute... a regular harddisk doesn't need any drivers. Also, wouldn't your ThinkPad have a hidden recovery partition to return your installed Windows to factory conditions with?
Unfortunately you already spent money on an external CD drive which probably wasn't necessary.

Your laptop's manual should tell you how to run the recovery. It will delete any user-created files, though, so if you have things you need to get off the harddisk then recovery is not an option yet.

How did the problem happen? Were there any hardware/software changes (driver updates, new installations etc.) before Windows stopped booting?

Wait a minute... a regular harddisk doesn't need any drivers.

If I swap my HDD to a different SATA connector, the next time I log into Windows, a message pops up saying that it is installing a device driver.
It then pops up another message saying that my HDD has been successfully installed.

It's possible that the HDD power or data connectors have come loose.
My PC refused to boot when I had a dodgy SATA cable on one of my data drives (not the OS drive).
