...in one of the 'other' forums, you know..., an OP about this subject was given all kinds of information and a lot of misinformation, including 'veteran' posters TELLING the OP to just live with it and stop complaining. Can you believe it? Sounds like some political dialog, instead of...

(I won't register for 'their' forum because the last time I did, a few years back, I was INSTANTLY hit with a wave of spam that didn't stop. Had to change my address.)

One poster said it was the system's 'heartbeat,' seriously.

Anyway, I was totally annoyed with my hdd led blinking constantly, and then I discovered a suggestion by Mike M999 in one of the 'other' forums that if you disabled the cd\dvd in device manager it might go away.

Instant cure for me.

But I'm repeating this here, even though someone commented with this solution in the general forum some time back, because what I noticed is that the device driver for this new model of LG CD\DVD Writer, so new, that its model isn't even listed on their web site.

The properties for the driver in device manager of this CD\DVD Writer shows that it was written by MS back in 2006!

I have three LG CD\DVD Writers that I bought over 2004-5 and there aren't any LG drivers for them now. I wonder if MS's 2006 driver would have worked. No big deal, as this new writer only cost $16+. Can you believe that we had to pay more than $300 for drives like this not too long ago.

So, I go to LG's support page and input my data and squeeze my email message into the tiny little box. It's like they're saying, "now don't really write much of anything to us."

The next day I get an answer from LG:

Good Morning!

Thank you for contacting LG.

I'm not exactly sure what happened here, but there is nothing visible in the email you sent us.

Please resend it so that LG can offer you the assistance you are looking for, and we look forward to hearing from you again soon, Sir.

Do you know if the problem only affected certain LG drives?

I have 6 of them spread across 6 computers, and IIRC, I think I saw this symptom on one of the PCs. But I reinstalled the OS for other reasons and the problem went away.

Customer service isn't what it used to be. :(

Hope this helps

Hi if your worrying about the hard drive light it isn't a serious issue. the light represents the transfer of data from the drive to the Ram/processor. if this light is constantly on and you had built the system yourself i would recommend checking the placement of the indicator cables but if the system isn't slow or freezing while the light is solid its not much more that large/constant data transfer but if your CD drive is causing the interference perhaps you need to get your bios to scan for system components. a quick Google search will show you how to do this.

on the issue of drivers i had some of the same issues with a ACER aspire t300. mainly CD drives are plug and play but if your searching for burning software Nero or Ashampoo offer good suites that are easy to use. if these drives are not plug and play. googleing the product and adding drivers at the end can give easy results. i cant do much more as you haven't listed the product details.
hope this helps and good luck...:geek:

Hi if your worrying...<snip>

Dear Bomb,

It's not that "I'm worrying." It's that when I'm not sitting next to it working on my system, it stares me in the face from my other main seating positions and it's ANNOYING!!! If you can hear me....
...and besides that, it's certainly not an indication of an efficient system: As these MS OS's grow in (almost infinite) complexity, stuff like this is simply trashy irresponsibility!!...if you can HEAR me...
