Block connections

How do I block people from connecting onto my WI-FI on win7.
I used to be able to do it on XP but the options seems to be different on Win7.

Hi john, you'll need to password protect your wifi router in order to block unwanted access. There are several ways to do it, however, password protection is the simplest way.

dinesh is of course correct. another thing you can do is to enable using mac addressing so that only the computers you put into can log on. It is more dificult than password and probably not necessary but if you really want to do both

In my control panel > action center, it shows that Network Access Protection is turned off. How do I turn it on?

go to services.msc and there you'll find NAP. Click Start to turn it on. Its basically for commercial purpose..

The actual password is set-up in the router not in the operating system - you will need to check the instructions which came with your router.

I would recommend you choose WPA2 protection if your router supports it rather than the more common wep type.

if you do not have access to your router settings, (shared access?), there is not a lot that you can do other that firewalling your actual PC.

if you have access to the router but need further assistance we would need full details of the make and model of the router
