Blown Mosfet

Hi 7Forums! Am going to use an multimeter to look for blown mosefets on motherboard! i know one of the needled +/- from mutlimeter go to ground on the motherboard, but which is ground on the motherboard? Any of you experts have any idea!

I don't mean to be a wise guy, but if you don't know where ground is on the motherboard, I doubt that you will find a bad component. You also need "SMT" desoldering/soldering equipment for most motherboard repairs, if you can even do it yourself. Motherboards are multi-layered boards and require specialized equipment and knowledge to work or, or they can be damaged. Even most computer repair shops won't attempt motherboard repairs.

Youd use a screw, the chassis or 0V on a molex connector, to establish ground on a circuit board. B.T.W. you don't measure/test semiconductors that way, you'd use the Source, Drain, and Base of the MOSFET.

Where did you get this idea of a multi meter for testing blown mosefets?

Other than a physical visual exam and a smell test their is much on can test on a motherboard.
As far as I know only the manufacture can really test a motherboard.
Their are probable some specialized labs that could also test motherboards if they had all the needed information, but those types of equipped labs wouldn't waste the time.

You can probably probe your way around the mobo and find nothing of value.

To do what you want to do, you have to really, REALLY understand how a MOSFET actually works. Poking around a live motherboard with a meter is likely to cause more damage.

I don't recommend that you do this.
