Blu Ray

When I recently bought a LG Blu Ray Combo internal player, it wouldn't recognize a Blu Ray movie disk, so I ran the Cyberlink BD Advisor, and it failed my video card.

Now, I have replaced it with a new GTX460 SC, and the BD Advisor seems happy with that, but it fails on some codecs, as can be seen in the screenshot below.

Are these codecs supposed to be native to W7, or part of the video driver (260.99) or ?

Even if your video card fails, the player should still recognize a blu ray disc has been inserted into the drive, but not play it.

Codecs have always come with the drive drivers for me.

Correct. I had put the disk in the wrong drive. Now it does recognize it, but tries to open WinDVD, which I have not bought, and it has expired. I have PowerDVD 8, but when I just tried to open it manually, an error window appeared and it failed. Do you know if that version of Power DVD supports BD? I have spent so much money lately on Blu Ray, that I'm reluctant to spend more on a player. Is there a free or cheap one available? I know about AnyDVD, but it is not cheap.

By "drive", are you referring to the optical drive?

I don't know, I'm still working on free...maybe $20-$30.

Do you have PowerDVD 8 deluxe? If so the upgrade to 10 Deluxe (no 3D) is only $30.

I'm searching around for a free blu ray compatible media player, but I've not found anything so far.

I think that It's PowerDVD 8 Ultra. I'm going to have to reinstall it to be sure.

Hmm, you might have to email them and ask if you can upgrade from that to 10 deluxe. It might even be cheaper

I think Power Dvd 8 will play Blueray disks But I know 10 will as i have it. I just got a new LG player and it came with PowerDVD.

I just check the install disk I got with a new LG BH10 and it loads PowerDVD 9.

I recently got and installed a Liteon iBHS-112 BD writer. It was bundled with Cyberlink Blu-ray Disc Suite with Power DVD 9 and plays BDs. Upgrade to Power DVD 10 ultra 3D will cost $51 after a 15% discount.

Unfortunately, my BD player is OEM, thus no software. Had I given it more thought, I would have bought a retail drive instead.

I finally got PowerDVD 8 to work for BDs, by installing an update. The Advisor still shows the same failed items as before, but since it did play the only Blu Ray movie DVD that I have, I'm wondering just how worthwhile upgrading to PowerDVD Ultra Mark II would be. Even with the upgrade discount, it would cost ~ $80 to do so, and unless there is a compelling reason to do so, I will save my money.
