Since i have added my windows 7 installation to the domain i often get afd.sys blue screens. It seems to occur when i access a network resource.

Any ideas?

First welcome to SF.
What are you using for a firewall? Other than the bsod is networking ok. If you would fill out you "my system specs" in control panel we would have more info.

Waiting for more info, and again welcome

Hi thanks,

Windows firewall was on, but trying with it off. I also read on this forum that having the wireless network card enabled also produced blue screens, trying with that off to for now.

Will let you know what happens perhaps its just a driver update problem.

Yep, I have seen both types (wired and wireless) cause it. Just goggled it and found this. Most ref's seen to indicate networking and firewall

Hope this helps somewhat

This issue (afd.sys blue screen) occurred on my Win 7 x86 and Win 7 x64 install. Asus P5KC MB, 4GB Ram, Intel CPU E6750 Duo.

I tried many different options here.

The fix,
Disable my onboard NIC (Atheros).
Used Broadcom PCI-E NIC. Solved it for me.

Try different hardware, short verdict.

Hope it helps someone.

I am in the same boat!

Thanks for the heads up!! I have the same onboard nic, the Atheros L1 Gigbit Eth P5K motherboard and keep getting the BSOD on the same AFD.SYS file.

I tried a couple things, removed IPv6 and some of the unneeded network stuff, seemed to happy when I had my BB pluged in, or my Iphone, but random, but now thinking back, network for sure!

Thanks for the insight!

Hey Ken thanks glad to be here!

I am sure its fine hardware, but lack of W7 support on the driver will get you everytime, I dont want to "tweak" to much, or I will miss out on the true Windows 7 experience, but I had read a few forums mentioning turning off the network tuning that Vista had, but didnt go that route....

I have a USB nic I can use inthe mean time incase the little changes I made dont help!

Got it !!

What you need to do is:
Go to asus HomePage, download driver for winxp for you motherboard (p5k in my case) now dont open no .exe ****, it will just say not combatible...
now open you "Device manager" Go to "network adapters" "Atheros BLA BLA BLA L1 Gigabit ect ect ect", now rightclick and "update driver software"
"Browse my computer for driver software" "let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer" then you click "Have disk" now browse your files (if you download it from asus the dir will be: "AtherosL1>>x86x64>>WinXP_32>>and then some .inf file....Open it!!!Then you get a list of devices, pick the oldest one, and PUF it works :D Just download BFH, playing mysic from playlist.com, video on youtube, porn on pornhub xD, and no crash after i did this... Hope it helps... If it dont, write me : [email protected]... Will gladly help you, since those prics at asus told me there will be no fix untill w7 is released -.-!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
