I got a BSOD during a credit card purchase and it was right after I finished entering all the information and then clicked checkout or whatever. As soon as the page loaded saying "Processing order...", about 3 seconds later it just crashed.

I was wondering do you think this will affect my order at all? I hope it didn't mess up the transaction and order multiple times or anything.

Are you here to figure out if your purchase went through and if you're going to be charged multiple times?

Or do you want us to figure out why your computer crashed?

Neither.

I know that my order didn't go through multiple times and was for the most part unaffected by the crash. However, doing a web search for BSOD's/system crashes during online transactions seemed to reveal no results on the web.

Therefore, I thought it would benefit the community to start a discussion on this; for example if someone searches for blue screens during an online purchase in the future and finds this thread.

Also, not to be rude, but who do you think you are saying that this thread is in the wrong place? I read the rules, and the description of this section and thought it was the best place to post such a discussion. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seemed like it was more relevant to debugging crashes than to general discussion even though it didn't contain any crash analysis or error codes.

That being said, the reason I think the order completed fine even though it barely got to process after the online form was submitted, is because I think all the transaction information was contained in a single network packet. This packet was probably transmitted as soon as the form was submitted to the processing server and therefore wasn't affected by the system crash. Also, the "Processing Order.." page was probably simply waiting for the response from the server to notify me that the order went through, but since the response packet was never received by the browser, it was not a mandatory packet and that's why everything still went through smoothly.

These are my thoughts on this. If anyone has any other thoughts or input to give then this is welcome and I'm sure it would benefit this discussion. Thanks.

So then why did you post in "Crashes and Debugging" if you don't want support in figuring out why your computer crashed?
