Blue Screen Frustration

I'm getting the blue screen of death multiple times of day. Often times while doing something as inocuous as reading email or a website. Other times, I'm working on something and I lose everything. I'm really getting tired of this and seriously thinking about going back to Vista. For all the headaches that verison had, none were as frustrating as this.

While I'm on mhy soapbox, what are the odds that Microsoft is going to do good by those of us that purchased Vista as early as January of this year? Are you going to make good or should we start considering (God forbid) Apple? Seriously. I purchased Vista 32bit in January of 08 for a new system build and 64bit for another new system build in January of this year. Is my business not worth your tiime? Just asking.

if you want go to c:\windows\minidump, zip the dump files from the BSOD (*.dmp) and upload them to us for debugging.

I gave up even guessing at what M$ is going to do for the vista users or anything else.

I bought a Nikon camera around January and now I hear they're going to be releasing a new model soon! If they don't send me the updated version of "Nikon camera" for free, I reckon I might instead go with Canon next time.

Not an attempt to debug your issue but instead simply to offer up a similar experience: Last week I was experiencing random BSODs when my relatively new install of Win7 (RC version) was mostly idle.

After using the MS debugging tool to analyze a couple of minidumps I learned that a disk imaging utility installed a couple days prior included a virtual CD driver (presumably for its ability to write the image directly to a CD/DVD) that created an entry in the Device Manager. The *.sys file associated with this virtual device was listed as the suspect by the MS debugging tool. I uninstalled the offending imaging utility and all has been right with the world since.

Hang in there. Hopefully your posting the dumpfile here will get you some actionable results. From lurking here awhile I have seen many brilliant contributors.

Thanks Ken and Peter. Here is the minidump file. And Sevenguru, okay I guess I deserve that. However, when Microsoft is doing the "right" thing by everyone else who had premium or less that was purchased this year and for anyone else who wanted an upgrade for dirt cheap other than the ultimate folks, you have to wonder where there priorities are for customer loyalty. So I won't switch to crapple and I'm not even asking for a free upgrade which many people will get, but I do think some sort of discounted replacement would be in order. Considering all the issues everyone had (including myself) with Vista, I don't think rewarding those of us that continue to stick by Windows would be a bad move. Instead, it would show appreciation for their loyal base and gratitude for sticking with them during what surely was a really difficult year for them. In the business world, I believe it's called 'retention.' Rewarding your customers for their continued loyalty. Then again, I guess you like throwing a couple of hundred bucks down the drain every year for ineffective software. I'm just saying...

I'm not to be taken too seriously. To be honest, I don't have the slightest idea what the upgrade options are, although I agree with you that some type of preferential pricing seems only fair for those who've purchased previous versions of the OS. Historically, Windows came in an "upgrade" version which was substantially cheaper. Isn't that also true of Win7? (The question is not rhetorical - I really don't know.)

Anyway, your crashes are almost certainly caused by this geriatric Atheros WiFi NIC driver:

If you update the driver to something far more current (like, 2009), the crashes should cease.

I pretty much guessed it was my 2wire adaptor, thanks for confirming that. However, you're right, the latest driver for the adaptor is from 2007 and after contacting them, well let's just say "huh?". I then contacted AT&T and had to go through all the usual steps of this, that and the other from some guy in India. After he couldn't resolve my issue and even admitted his work computer is still using IE6, I was switched back to the states and spoke with James who apparently didn't have my information from the previous guy and wanted to know everything under the sun from passcodes, pin numbers, address, rank and file and my cat's name. Don't get me started. He told me about something by a company called Asoka which makes a plugin device that goes into my gateway and an electrical outlet and the other half via my ethernet and another electrical outlet (I have a desktop workstation) much like a wired connection, which we all know is faster...yippee! Unfortunately, it's not available in my area, despite living four blocks away from the AT&T headquarters here in Atlanta, with their switching station just outside the gates of my community. So, the best they have to offer is a different USB adaptor from another company that their going to send out in about two days. If all else fails (which is the most likely scenario), I'll have no other choice but to go back to Vista, which just pains me (and no Comcast is NOT an option, their service is the absolute worst). Gotta get some work done.

Hi guys, these BSOD's have occured when playing blu ray and gaming!
Any ideas would be gratefully recieved.
I have tried to open the dump files but cannot find the right program, any help where i may find it would be gratefully recieved.
