I have a new install of W7 64bit that was experiencing multiple "Display driver nvddmkm.sys has stopped responding and has recovered" errors. Now it does not recover- just crashes.
I have experimented with memory settings to no avail.
I have completely uninstalled and re-installed the drivers. No joy.

Also: The card is seated and has been operating well for 9 months in XP. Is cleaned regularly with compressed air. The exhaust from the card is relatively cool. Asus Q-fan control will ramp up when a component is under load, so I can hear when something is taxing the system. It is purring while these crashes are occurring.

Past good performance is no assurance of continued good performance. Stuff happens, and stuff breaks.

Not much in the way of clues for us to go by.
Are you overclocking anything? If so, please return it to the default values while we're troubleshooting.

The oldest driver on the system is the ASACPI.SYS dated from 2005. This driver is known to cause BSOD's in some systems (but doesn't in my P6T Deluxe). So I'd suggest updating it ASAP. To do this, visit The Asus website and download the ATK0110 ACPI Utility and install it. ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support- download_item_mkt

I'd also suggest updating your BIOS to the 0904 version due to the memory compatibility update. We can't be certain that this isn't a memory compatibility issue, so it's better to be safe. Be careful flashing the BIOS - if done wrong it can hose the motherboard.

Beyond that, hang on while I run the dump file analysis.....

Nope, nothing surprising in the dump files - I'd suggest the ASACPI.SYS and BIOS update, then I'd suspect issues with the video card itself.

I will give those two a try (not today). I just downloaded both of them.
I recall that when I first installed W7 and got on the desktop I checked Device Manager and found one unknown device: it needed the ATK0110 driver, which I downloaded and installed from Windows Update on Dec 17.
I just flashed my BIOS to 0801 a few weeks prior to Installing W7. Figures a new one came out since then. It's worth a try considering memory issues are a prime suspect.
I have my memory "overclocked" to 1333 (it is 1333 memory). The i7-920 is a locked processor - it only officially runs at 1066, but many people report no problem overclocking it or the memory. It has been at 1333 since I built this rig. But I will turn it down (again) for this troubleshooting to be sure. I have to reset defaults to flash the BIOS anyway.

Windows Update installs the 2005 version of the ASACPI.SYS driver.
I've seen a lot of Win7 BSOD's due to it - but not that many on P6 boards.
It's still a good idea to update it (even though mine has been working fine since Win7 hit the RTM stage.

But I couldn't have better proof of a graphics driver error than my now default test: if I open Nvidia Control Panel and try and adjust the 3D graphics settings from "let the programs decide" to user control and try and move the slider down from "Quality" to "Performance" the system crashes every time. Sometimes I can't even get to the point of making any changes, just opening the control panel crashed the system. I almost screwed myself because at one point I couldn't get back on the desktop long enough to change it back without crashing.

Safe Mode is the solution for this sort of driver issues. A lot of fixes will work there, and if they don't you can always shut it off/remove it.

Try updating the drivers to the latest version from the nVidia website
Check the card to make sure that the fan is working
Check the card to make sure that dust/cat hair (my problem) isn't preventing air from circulating.
Try another video card to rule out issues with the card itself.

Issue solved - bad video card

I put in a new GeForce 9500GT card and the latest nVidia drivers (195.62) and all my video issues are gone. The GTX260 is being RMA'd as we speak.
