I had a dell inspiron with 500gb internal HDD.
This laptop display hardware crashed so i planned to use a seagate backup-plus enclosure for my laptop HDD and use it via USB boot.

All things were set and I could boot via USB and reach till win7 logo and then boom, the system falls into a bluescreen and restarts.

If i try to USB-boot into safe mode the last line the system would halt before bluescreen is at .....\ATIPCIE.sys

The HDD is booting just fine if plugged into another laptop motherboard.

Tried fixMBR, fixboot, via bootrec, rebuildbcd in recovery options when in USB-boot

bootrec /scanos returns 0 installations during USB-boot.

all thoughts appreciated

That sounds like the cable or motherboard connection is causing the problem, with a laptop it may be however difficult to troubleshoot it as you can't easily replace at least the cable normally.
