Hi

I am getting random bluescreen's occurring with USB_BUG_CODE errors. I dug this
out of event viewer:

Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.1
Locale ID: 2057
Additional information about the problem:
BCCode: fe
BCP1: 0000000000000005
BCP2: FFFFFA800FCE51A0
BCP3: 0000000080863B3C
BCP4: FFFFFA800FA5CC50
OS Version: 6_1_7600
Service Pack: 0_0
Product: 256_1

The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x000000fe (0x0000000000000005, 0xfffffa800fce51a0, 0x0000000080863b3c, 0xfffffa800fa5cc50). A dump was saved in: C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: 010411-20919-01.

I tried searching for this exact error but no luck from google so far, although similar errors have been reported with no clear cut solutions or causes.
Does anyone know if this is a software or hardware related error? If anyone knows how to make sense of the dump files that'd be great - thanks

windows7 ultimate x64
Retail version
System is about a month old

the links to all debug files, including the memory.dmp is in the following links:

debug.part02.rar - Windows Live
debug.part01.rar - Windows Live

couldnt attach locally as they're large files (memory.dmp is anyway)

thanks in advance

j

Hello jp571 and welcome to Seven Forums. The dump file size is way too big. Go to C:\Windows\Minidump and get the latest dump. Upload the latest dump file in the Seven Forum Attachment.

I'm asking this because my Internet Speed is decent of downloading the dump files.

Hi there,

attached two mini dump files for the two occasions that this error occurred.

Also, do you know how to open the memory dump file with say notepad (I know you cant really do anything with it using notepad) but just for the sake of being able to open it atleast as you need to be admin, and the user account I use does have admin priviledges.

Also, are you able to download the files I have uploaded to the skydrive account? just in case anyone wants to look.

Can you provide more detail for your system specs (manufacture name of RAM) (manufacture name of motherboard)??

Also, do you know how to open the memory dump file with say notepad (I know you cant really do anything with it using notepad) but just for the sake of being able to open it atleast as you need to be admin, and the user account I use does have admin priviledges.

You will need to copy the dump files from the Minidump folder to another place such as the Desktop. Then you can open it from there with Notepad.

Update the drivers:
speedfan.sys Sun Sep 24 20:26:48 2006
Speedfan - Uninstall it (my recommendation).

Can you provide more detail for your system specs (manufacture name of RAM) (manufacture name of motherboard)??

the pc specs are as follows:

Motherboard: Intel DP55SB
CPU: i7 870
RAM kingston ValueRAM (4x 4GB) PC3-10600
Graphics: GT 430
PSU: antec tp-550
hdisks: 2 x Samsung F3 1TB

also I booted up this morning and the PC suddenly rebooted on me, this time it was due to that dreaded USB bluescreen error but I dug this out of event viewer:

these events show an issue with power, any ideas if this could be related to the USB blue screen error?

Upload the latest dump that occurred and we'll go from there.
Have you followed my advice? (uninstall Speedfan).

sorry I forgot to mention that no dump occurred with the latest reboot due to the kernel-power however, I have uninstalled speedfan and instead Im using coretemps and hardware-monitor (any problems with these?). This morning when the reboot occurred I was just running coretemps.

If that usb_bug_code bluescreen occurs again I will upload the mini-dump file. Only thing that has changed with this system is that I installed an extra 8GB of RAM (all of same specification) on saturday but the pc had been running fine for atleast a month prior to this. Ive run memtest and no problems reported, all passed.
Also, the 550 watt psu should easily be able to handle my system specs so perhaps a driver error somewhere though I havent installed any new hardware drivers recently and I am running with the latest.
I'll keep you updated on any new developments.

I'm no hardware guru and I only 20% or 25% about hardware. Maybe you could do a little research?
Like you mentioned, if BSOD occurs again, upload the dumps and we'll go from there.

Hope you have a safe holiday.

just got the dreaded bluescreen related to usb, again and have attached the latest mini-dump file.

At this time I was downloading files mostly and had ie browser open, about 7-8 tabs.
I noticed the RAM steadily increases, went from about 1.51GB and was around 2.8-2.9 GB before the crash occurred.

cheers - jem

hmm, strange that speedfan.sys is still there but Ive definitely deleted it.

I used bluescreenview on the latest mini-dump and basically it points to USBPORT.SYS as being the causer of this crash.
Also the following drivers were loaded on the stack at the time, namely ntoskernl.exe, nvlddmkm.sys, usbehci.sys

but I didnt see the speedfan.sys driver this time in the rest of the drivers listed (not on stack).
Its possible I may have sent you an old dump, did I send you
010611-22058-01.dump?

If you get a chance, perhaps if you look at BlueScreenView it will show you what I saw but Im not sure how this relates to the problem at hand and whether it tells us anything more about how to resolve this issue.
All I have in the PC is the mouse and keyboard along with a usb stick on an internal usb drive on the motherboard; and just downloading and browsing.
Do you think I should run some kin dof stress test tool like OCCT over 2hrs or so and stress the whole pc to see what that brings up.
If ever increasing RAM usage is the problem then perhaps this would be flagged up in the stress test?

BlueScreenView does not provide correct results.

Create a system restore point.
Back up your files.
Go to where speedfan.sys is and change the file extension to .old (this will break any software associated with it)

For CoreTemp, uninstall it or update the software.

hi Dean,

is it possible for you to give me a quick summary of how to get the necessary debug files so I can see for myself whats happening.
Ive already download the symbols executable file and installed this, along with the sdk and dubugger files

Im running the following command:

C:\Program Files\Debugging Tools for Windows (x64)>windbg -y srv*E:\symbols*http
://msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbols -i e:\I386 -z H:\installers\debug\Minidum
p\010411-19500-01.dmp

however, I keep getting an error saying:

*************************************************************************
*** ***
*** ***
*** Your debugger is not using the correct symbols ***
*** ***
*** In order for this command to work properly, your symbol path ***
*** must point to .pdb files that have full type information. ***
*** ***
*** Certain .pdb files (such as the public OS symbols) do not ***
*** contain the required information. Contact the group that ***
*** provided you with these symbols if you need this command to ***
*** work. ***
*** ***
*** Type referenced: usbport!_DEVICE_EXTENSION ***
*** ***
*************************************************************************

Ive set the symbols path in the GUI of windbg and ive also set the imagepath to E:\i386 (which Ive copied off of my winxp sp3 cd), so not sure why this is not showing the details.

also, Ive downloaded the Retail RTM version of symbols file as opposed to the checked version, is the one I should be using?

thanks for that Dean, I tried that also but was still coming up with the same error, strange but oh well

I got another mini-dump this morning, straight after a windows update it seems.

You should be able to download from the link above, would have attached the 4th crash but for some strange reason there was an error when uploading the 4th dump (saying invalid file).

Ive included the 4th crash along with the previous 3 (above link), to perhaps see of there is some re-curring pattern when these crashes occur.
No overclocking of this system is happening, infact I have never ever overclocked this system and I just had open a browser and was downloading a few files and browsing sites, when this occurred.
