Bluetooth Headet Driver

I have Windows 7 x64 and it cannot find a driver for my Plantronics 520 bluetooth headset. I found the forums and this related thread through Google. That thread links to an ASUS driver. I am downloading it because as far as I know bluetooth audio is an open standard. However that makes it a little bizarre for Windows not to be able to install the driver automatically.

I'll come back to tell you if I have any luck with the driver mentioned in that other thread. Plantronics don't provide any drivers on their website.

Nope, the installer freezes for the driver mentioned on the thread I linked to.

Yep, I have tried the Broadcom driver and can't get my Motorola S9 headset to work either, the driver also freezes.

No joy here.

I was having problems as well with my IOGEAR GBU321 Bluetooth Adapter with a Plantronics PLT510. This driver solved my problems immediately.

I'd like to be able to use my BT headset for skype, messenger, and magic jack.

I'm using the official Windows 7 x 64 build 7600 final release direct from MS which as no native support for BT headsets. BT Discovery finds my plantronics 650e tells me to download SetupBtwDownloadSE.exe from broadcomm which runs for about 3 seconds and hangs. It runs on some of the early release candidates but not on the final.

The message from the broadcomm software is - "this program cannot upgrade your software" "please contact the manufacturer of your bluetooth device for support"

My headset is listed in device manager as a "bluetooth peripheral device" with an exclamation point needing drivers.

I should have followed up.

After installing an update and rebooting the device started to work fine. However, I don't believe it was a driver update. I think there is some shortcoming with the driver that means it only works with a reboot.

This was quite some time ago however and I am not sure if I remember correctly.

I figured out what I did wrong

I went to services and stopped the logitech services for the BT and then the broadcomm installed fine. I also tried bluesoleil but the Broadcomm worked fine and it is free.

Restart your computer and it should all be OK!

I finally solved this problem. Buy a CSR v4.0 enabled bluetooth dongle on ebay, plug it in to a usb slot. Right click the bluetooth icon in system tray and select "Settings" and tick "Allow bluetooth devices to find this computer." Then click "add a device", turn on your bluetooth headphones and the headphones will show up in bluetooth devices. Add the device, then right click your speaker icon in the system tray, select playback devices. From the menu, select the headphones and set them as default. I did this and they work perfectly. Furthermore when I turn the headphones off, the sound goes back to normal speakers - no other adjustments made. Turn the headphones on again and the sound defaults to them. I noticed on an earlier failed install of the headphones when they did appear in Devices and Printers that the drivers were CSR something enabled. I did try some cheaper dongles and the actual Plantronics USB dongle(expensive) to no avail. Get a CSR 4.0 enabled device. Mine cost 6.00AU total.

Note that Windows will detect and automatically install drivers for the device. It also comes with a driver CD.
