Bluetooth keyboard keeps disconnecting?

This is my first Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, and although it looks as though it was designed by an art student, you are totally fudged if you are left handed because Logitech decided, the entire world are right handed. It is a well designed keyboard and mouse that cups your hand like a well fitted glove, but it has a major flaw... Or it's Windows 7? The problem I have is the keyboard keeps disconnecting all the time which is really annoying when you are typing and half the words are not there. Windows 7 has Bluetooth already set as standard, but I am now wondering if the problems I am getting is Logitech SetPoint clashing with Windows 7 Bluetooth...? Which could be causing the keyboard to disconnect?

I must be honest I love the keyboard and the mouse is just amazing.... But the disconnection of the Bluetooth is so irratating, you just feel like throwing in the towel and returning back to your wireless keyboard which kept a steady connection. It never stopped working, you never had to search for your keyboard via Bluetooth Central. Does anybody have an idea what is causing the dissconnection of the keyboard. The mouse is fine it's just the keyboard which drops the connection and you have to press the red button on the keyboard and reconnect again, it was fine to start off with, then it started disconnecting.

Any ideas folks.

I use the older MX5000 and you might also want to keep an eye on the battery level as it will start missing letters or just type the last one till you pull the batteries out and replace them. I can't comment on it being a setpoint conflict as I installed setpoint just to get it connected, then I uninstall it and have never had any problems except the afore mentioned. Thank you both for your reply, I do have the latest drivers installed for setpoint, and the batteries have 127 days left. I have uninstalled and scrubbed the drivers and then reinstalled the drivers again. I even moved the reciever to the USB at the front of the rig but this made no difference. I am wondering on wheather to change the batteries of not. As I said it worked fine for a couple of weeks ,then it started losing connectivity and they keyboard vanished from SetPoint the display on the keyboard said connecting which took at least 20 minutes to connect. Let's remove and replace the batteries and try again. I do not know how long this has been in a warehouse either because I used the batteries that came with the keyboard?

Jonessie Your welcome. Moving the USB RF receiver was a good idea and should help, as well as trying new batteries. Generally most items that come with batteries are lower quality batteries than you would buy. I went ahead and bought a set Rayovac NIMM 2000mAh batteries with a 15 minute quick charger and also have another set of rechargeable that I use while charging the others. The quick charger set wasn't cheap but they keep my board working much longer and they pay off in the long run. Please keep us posted thanks. Fabe

Thats weird. RF receivers will drop signals and you'll have frequent input lags, but bluetooth doesn't normally do this. I can say this because after switching to bluetooth keyboard, this issue just went away. So either the receiver or firmware is too old and problematic or your battery isn't making contact as it should with the keyboard. A notebook mouse Logitech made came with this problem where the spring was just a little short and causes the mouse to drop connection frequently.

RF frequency should work regardless to where the reciever is... I agree although, I changed the batteries for Energiser Digital and I know these are specifically for digital devices such as phones and camera, but I was thinking on the lines of, well it does have an LCD which is considered digital? They work better than the batteries that came with the keyboard, well I have not had an issue yet? And I think I resolved the problem.

Although, I have thought of something, my router is next to my computer which is wireless, although Bluetooth and Wi-Fi run on different frequencies I can rule out this being the cause. It looked as though it was a battery issue. I initally thought it might have been Windows 7 and SetPoint Bluetooth clashing as would a hardware firewall and software firewall would fight over open ports.

I have the exact same problem of the keyboard disconnecting. I have an MX5000 Keyboard and Mouse combo from Logitech and am running Win7 HP. I have experienced random drops while playing a game - very annoying! But I have found that if I uninstall setpoint and make use of the default drivers that windows installs, then I get no drop-out what-so-ever! The dropouts started when I upgraded to Vista Ultimate and installed the latest setpoint at the time, I then upgraded to Win7 Home Premium x64, and the dropped connection with the keyboard continued so long as I have setpoint installed. So I'd suggest that you loose the functionality of the LCD, and all hotkeys in favor of having a steady bluetooth connection with the keyboard. I have subsequently contacted Logitech technical support, but they are useless - suggesting to upgrade to the latest version of setpoint (dah!) and turning of all security systems!! Naturally neither have solved the issue! Looks like we'll have to wait for an improved version of setpoint, at least the default Windows drivers deliver flawless functionality.

I also have the MX5000 from Logitech. Although I am running vista on this particular comp. My desktop broke so I just took my keyboard mouse combo and plugged it into my XPS and never installed the software for it. So yesterday I thought hey why not upgrade to the full features of my keyboard. Installed from Logitech.com and boom. I always get disconnected, usually its my mouse and my keyboard goes ever so often as well. I cant just press the connect button and get it back up. I have to open up the Bluetooth panel and mess with it, sometimes they connect and sometimes they don't. I am also 4-6 feet away from the receiver and get horrid lag most of the time with the mouse, never the keyboard. So I have done a full uninstall on the program I downloaded from Logitech and I still have this problem. So thus I'm guessing the problem is not only with Windows 7. So if someone can come up with a fix to use the software please let me know.

I am having the same problems described above. Specifically, I was having the dropped Bluetooth issues using my Logitech MX5000 Keyboard/Mouse (MX1000) Combo with my Lenovo T60p running Windows XP Pro. I had to maintain an older version of SetPoint because newer versions caused other conflicts with either Windows (probably not) or the laptop itself. Anyway, just upgraded to a Lenovo W510 running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. I used the native driver in Win 7 hoping to rid myself of all issues associated with SetPoint. However, Windows 7 native drivers do not support horizontal scrolling in any programs but the mouse driver properties (found in Control Panel). If I am missing something here, please enlighten me, but I could set the horizontal scroll rate to three characters/click in Control Panel and scroll from side-to-side in the mouse properties, but I could not scroll horizontally in Excel (for instance) or any of the location dialog boxes until I bit the bullet and installed SetPoint (version 4.8, I believe). Unfortunately, installing SetPoint reintroduced the Bluetooth-drop-out issue. I have now "upgraded" SetPoint to version 6.15.6 (driver version 5.10.9) eventhough it claims that "Some features of this device (both mouse and keyboard) are not supported by this version of SetPoint." I have not experienced a bluetooth-drop-out (in the last hour), side-to-side scrolling works, and I have not noticed that I'm missing any features that I use. I can only cross my fingers at this point that there won't be any drop-outs and that my VX Revolution will also work when I undock. I am using the built-in Bluetooth in the laptop and my combo sits inches from the laptop. I'll check for comments and post back results of more vigorous (as in, longer) testing. Thanks.

Still Problems

OK, a couple of days have gone by, and here is my report: I have experienced a blutooth disconnect using SetPoint 6.15. However, the real problem is that SetPoint is continually closing with the following error: "Logitech SetPoint Event Manager (UNICODE) has stopped working."

Anyone have any experience with the Microsoft BT 5000? I don't need my extra keyboard functions to work so much as I would like the horizontal scroll on my mouse to work.
