Bluetooth Problem

Hello,

Windows 7 Pro desktop ethernet connected.

Purchased Bluetooth dongle. Installed the software which came with it.

Tried to use a BT headphone - no sound.

The headphone pairs with the computer according to the popups and can be found as functional in Sound devices. Making it Default device makes no difference - no sound in the headphone. So it isn't the dongle or the software.

The headphone works perfectly well with my Zen tablet, so it isn't the headphone ...

Tried pairing another BT 4.1 headphone - same result - paired successfully with the desktop, but no sound.

Any suggestions as to what I'm missing ?

Bluetooth is not totally standardized, and so you will have some random incompatibilities. Sounds like this is one of them.

If you purchased the dongle and the headphones as a single package, then it would work with no problem.

They were separate purchases.

It doesn't really matter as both BT headphones I have work with the tablets.

I'll keep trying with the laptop.

There have been many versions of Bluetooth, 4.1 is one of the later versions and may not be compatible with the dongle supplied software, Bluesoleil is a commercial bluetooth software and works with most chipsets. They do a trial limited package which may at least allow you to try the headsets - You may decide once you have tried the software that you wish to purchase it or look for a later driver for the adaptor you have quite often the driver supplied with the hardware is not the latest - there are also a number of freeware drivers that claim to work universally, that may be worth pursuing

OK, Bat not known to be too smart so he'll ask a stupid question. Have you made sure to unpair the headphones from all your other devices first ?

Valid point and maybe worth a try. But, there is not a specific limit on number of devices that can be paired on a Bluetooth network that I am aware of, also I have Bluetooth in my car and connect a Phone (and can connect another, passenger?, phone in addition), Vehicle Media player and a GPS navigation system at the same time so multiple devices are possible to be connected concurrently with the latest BT Versions

No I didn't. However the drivers were up-to-date so I decided I didn't really need BT headphones on this desktop, so I uninstalled the whole thing.

No I didn't. However the drivers were up-to-date so I decided I didn't really need BT headphones on this desktop, so I uninstalled the whole thing.

I didn't read the instructions which came with the headphones. Indeed you have to unpair the headset from the other device (tablet), pair with the desktop after which you can re-establish a connection with the first device (apparently). I'll probably re-install and see what happens.
