Suddenly, I have acquired four spurious removable drives. I don't know wheere they came from, and there are no physical devices attached to my system that could account for them.

Anyone have any idea why this happened and how I can remove these bogus drives?

Hey DwfII,
I had this happen once and it was a virus on a jump drive I had. What I had to do to get rid of it was format the HD. They wouldn't delete for me, and I needed to format anyway. What antivirus program do you have?

Thanks,
Sarah

Thank you. I did this and looked specifically at the hardware tab. I am now convinced that they represent a multi-format removable card reader on the front of the box.

However, these only showed up on Saturday and the computer has been in use for about two weeks. What's more there are no removable cards in the reader and never have been.

I wonder if there is some way to turn off the display of these drives until they are actually in use. Perhaps I set a parameter in the startmenu properties or somewhere similar that made these show up. I have been fiddling--a little at a time but...

Thanks to Sarah, as well for taking the time.
