Is it possible to fix my boot disk problem on a computer that does not have a CD drive?

I have an Acer laptop running Windows 7. The computer froze up and I had to force power it down. Upon restarting, I got the "boot disk failure" message and the machine was making strange "clicking" noises. The answers to boot disk failure problems that I've read so far include inserting a CD-ROM into the computer with the failure.

Is there a solution that does not require a CD drive?

you could get an external cd/dvd drive, but that clicking noise you hear usually signals the death of your hard drive.
