Whenever I try and boot windows, from either the HD or the official restore DVD OR a bootable USB drive I get the following error:

"An error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data. File: \boot\BCD status:0xc000014c"

What I don't understand is why it won't boot off the DVD or USB drive which, presumably, has different, hardwired (if you will) boot configurations.

Here's another weird aspect to this cluster-eff: the hard drive boots up perfectly fine on my other desktop.

Anyways, this problem is about as frustrating an issue I've expirenced with a Windows machine. (well, at least since the horror that was Vista plagued my machine)

Any help/advice would be appreciated greatly.

Have you changed the settings in the BIOS to boot to the DVD drive before the hard drive?

Can you get into the advanced boot menu (F8)? Can you boot into safe mode with command prompt?

You say that the hard drive boots up perfectly fine on your other machine? I didn't think you could run Windows from one hard drive on two different machines??
