Cold booted my Win7 x86 PC this morning.

DOS style screen telling me PC did not shut down properly (night before)
Accepted "Enter" to open windows normally.

Windows alert containing reference to a DMP file. (See Attachment at end of this post)
Tried to open the DMP file but MS does not recognise DMP files, (even though MS Windows created it???)
For the first time in my life I opted to find program on the web.

Resulting auto search by Windows offered Windows File Association "File type unknown"
Sponsored sites on the page are awash with implied" Microsft connections.
I am not that gullible.

I have managed to open a copy of the DMP file, (in Notepad) it looks like a commercial banker's BS algorithm.
So far in 9 months I have 4 DMP files.

How do I find out what the problem was.?
I have an external HD USB'd to my laptop/PC, and I often forget to "safely remove" before "Shut Down".
So the HD stays connected. Have discovered removing any external device after shutdown can sometimes make cold boot "emotional".

Thank you :)
