Hello,

I freshly installed win 7 pro on my computer, running with a SSD for the system drive, and two other HDD for storage.
16gb of ram and an I7 4770K.

I installed all drivers required, the system was running smoothly for a few days, and suddenly started to boot slowly.

Before, the whole boot process took between 16 seconds to 20 seconds. Now, it takes 40 seconds to get to the windows logon screen ?!

My OS is still free of any third party software except one or two but, I installed them some days ago, and they did not trigger the slow boot process.

It appeared for no apparent reason...

I used "trace boot" to try to identify the issue, but I have no clue how to read it correctly. First, using xperfviewer, it seems that "autochk.exe" is hanging on boot, but using the windows kits analysing tool, it rather seem like "smss.exe" is the culprit. But I'm not really sure I'm reading it correctly.

Here is the .etl file : https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=FC0C7D5719FF1E53!135&authkey=!APS5-CVkxuYDxNQ&ithint=file,etl

Overall, "Session init" phase takes almost 30 seconds !

Note : I checked all my drives for errors, no error. Windows says all my drives are "not dirty"

Events viewer says in the performance diagnostic tools :
Critical : Session manager initialization caused a slow down in the startup process
Name : SMSSInit
Total duration : 27109ms

-->This error doesn't show up every time in the event viewer, but the slow boot is still occuring...

I was running this version of windows on this same PC build for more than 1 year without trouble. I have no clue what to do now...

Any help appreciated !! Thank you for reading me

Thanks, I checked this first, only windows apps and services running on start up !

BUT I found this post : https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/406980-windows-suddenly-taking-much-longer-to-boot-solution/

I remember formating my 3To hard drive yesterday and making a new partition in Windows 7. Before shutting the computer down. And today, slow boot started.

It might be the solution. Currently making a back up of personnal data, I can't install it now. Trying the fix soon and will let you know !
