My laptop sony vaio VPCEL24FX window 7 home premium 64 bit, has this boot manager that keeps poping up on startup. I have search the window seven forums and found several post with the same topics, the only differences is that the issue is for dual boots.
I only have one OS which is the window 7 and one hard drive. The threads that I have found in windows seven forums with solutions, I had follow the steps to resolve the issue, but the solution is for multiple operating systems and there no choice in each step because just about everything is gray out or is totally different in the drop menu that includes the msconfig in my w7 OS. I had also check the bios for anything that would lead to something or anything, but there is nothing except system information, advance security boot priority. Is there any other way to disable this? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Install and look at the listings in EasyBCD.

Set the bot timer in msconfig to 0 seconds.

Let us see the requested Disk Management - Post a Screen Capture Image.

Once we confirm the correct Active partition we'll have you run a few Startup Repairs to check over the boot files and configuration.

In addition if that is the Sony factory install then that is the worst possible install of Win7 one can have, which is why most tech enthusiasts won't even run it but instead do a Clean Reinstall Windows 7 which compiles everything that works best in Win7 to get and keep a perfect install.

boot manager at startup with only one OS

Hello everyone, thanks for all the replys to my post. I would like to send the requsted picture of the bcd, but unfortunately it seems
that my windows 7 64 bit system has become unstable after downloading easy bcd. Every time I click on easybcd, I would get a
message ' Are you sure you want to send easybcd to the recycle bin.' It's the same to every program I click on to launch, both the desktop and start menu. After the program is launched and the message pop up, it starts to flash afterwards more pops up.
after serval attempts to get easybcd to open I finally got it to open and was able to read the list. Window 7 is listed as the default
as the only OS. The listed path (not sure) is C:/windows/system32/winlogger. I couldn't read furthermore because messages keep popping up. I decided to do a clean install in hopes it will solve the issues. Use dban nuke (dod method 18 hrs)to erase and wipe clean the hard drive. Clean install w7, still the same issue, boot manager at startup system unstable. My next step is a new hard drive. I would like to note that during the clean install, boot manager appears(setup is on), the setup did not get updates for installation. There was no message 'press any key to boot from CD/DVD' went straight to install. After setup and restart it repeated the process of installing. I had to change the boot priority from optical drive to hard drive in order to complete the clean install. Does this mean that the laptop has gone completely bad or my w7 installation disk is corrupted, Bios is corrupted etc. ?
please advise.

Thank You
Merry Christmas:)

I`m sure your bios is fine, where did this W7 dvd come from ?

Drop it into the optical drive and use the one time boot menu key to trigger the boot menu. Arrow up or down to the optical drive and hit enter. You should see the words Press any key, hit any key and the process should start.
If the process does not work perfectly then it`s a bad disc. A new drive could also be in order.

In some cases you won`t see the Press any key words, but the process will just start.

Make sure you format the install partition or delete the entire drive to un allocated space if you have nothing you want to save on it.

Steps 6 and 7

My window 7 home premium disk came with a new computer I purchase a few years back. It did not come together with vaio laptop when purchase. Just today I installed a used hard drive (160gb) which I tested and work fine. I use this hard drive just
to test for clean installation, to my disappointment, the issue are the same. Unstable, slow response. The press any key to boot
is the same it appears for about one second or less, no time to press any keys. I still will try with a new drive in which I purchase last month(250gb) and will install w7 ultimate instead and post the result.

Thanks and Merry Christmas:)

If you allow the installation media to start over it will reinstall the OS again, obviously. This is not the fault of your PC or disk. It is user fault. Set the HD first to boot, use the one-time BIOS boot menu to trigger media only once.

It's completely unnecessary to write zeros to your drive for 18 hours when the only diagnostic benefit comes from the instant Diskpart Clean Command to clear the partition table and boot code.

If the problems remain after a different hard drive with new install then it's likely hardware - either the RAM or mobo - or something you're doing during the install that is not correct for Win7.

Test your RAM - Test with Memtest86+ and work through the other steps in Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7.

Use the licensed OS which came with the laptop unless you own a retail copy of Win7, but if Win7 came with the laptop then you're wasting $100+ to install another retail copy.

Follow closely the steps for Clean Reinstall Windows 7 to make sure you get and keep a perfect install, particularly how drivers are handled in a driver-complete OS which is not at all like XP.

Hello everyone I am sorry it took me this long to post but it seems my technical issues continue to plaque my vaio system.
here are the issues and the steps taken for resolve.
Windows 7:
replace old hard drive with new: install w7 home premium 64bit. issues: IE: slow response, click icons in both the desktop and start menu. Get message 'are you sure you want to send to recycle bin'. this message box keep popping up none stop (40 and counting). In IE favorite when click on a save website instead of launching, the name dissappear, the start menu flashes continously when trying to to chose to launch a program and when a program is finally launch it crashes and the the recycled bin is launched and could not close it. Unstable same is with w7 ultimate.
upgrade to w8 thru w7. The issue with w8 is windows update, update is always requesting to restart when it already has been restarted. I have also installed a new ram (correct version)still the same issues. The only thing thst got resolve is the boot manager at startup, none at startup. I also use norton antiverus for virus, but found none. Is there any answers for resolving
all this issues? If it's a hardware problem would a blue screen appear with and error code related to a hardware device, if so none
appears at all. Am about to pull out all my hair because everything I tried did not solve anything. Icould only guess that the laptop
has reach its demise. Any suggestions or technical advice I sure could use before a final decision to put it away for a very last time.

Thank You and Merry Christams.

Nobody who has ever followed closely Clean Reinstall Windows 7
has ever reported issues like yours at all, or any other issues except a perfectly running install.

But it's obvious you don't want to try those steps or you wouldn't have installed Norton AntiVirus which is bloatware that causes many problems we see here.

I've already given you my suggestions which still stand. If you get the chance I do hope you will try deleting all partitions to follow exactly the steps for a Clean Reinstall Windows 7 to see if it works for you like it has for a million others, or if you are the only one for whom it doesn't.

I had follow closely in the steps windows 7 clean install, even when I do know how to do the clean install methods. When it comes to clean install I am no newbie, in fact I still do clean install on w95 98 for people who love and still use the w9x.
I had installed windows 8 then upgrade to 8.1, no issues with windows 8 now after resolving the updates technical issues.
Today I install windows 7 in my son vaio same model as mine, and to my surprise there are no technical problems, everything
is running great. The only thing that comes to mind in terms of hardware is the CPU could be overheating just a little bit.
I have to disassemble the unit and check the cpu thermal paste. Thank you everyone for all the technical advice.

God Bless everyone and a Merry Christmas to all:)
