Boot manager only loading windows setup

Hi, I was having an idiot moment while trying to get my laptop to open the bios setup by hitting f2. I tried other function keys without the result I wanted. I hit f10 which brought me to the "edit boot options" and erased what it said there and simply typed setup thinking that might so what I wanted. To my surprise, it did not. Instead windows boot manager now will only load windows setup to restore my machine to factory settings which I DO NOT want to do. I have tried booting in safe mode but it is trying to load in safe mode for windows setup. I tried the boot manager and that says windows setup as the operating system [EMS Enabled] I have tried other combinations and other advice from other forums with no success. It won't load anything except windows setup. I need the stuff on my hard drive and cannot loose it. I probably deserve it for being a knoob at this point. Anyone knows what I can type in the edit boot options screen to get it to load windows normally or get the boot manager to load windows and not windows setup?

Can you boot to safe mode, or anything? I want you to open command prompt from whatever mode you can.
Do you have a win7 installation DVD or system repair disc?

If not do you have another win7 64bits machine? you can make a system repair disc on that machine http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/2083-system-repair-disc-create.html and boot form that DVD on sick machine.

I can boot from safe mode but it is only safe mode for windows setup. The boot manager will only boot windows setup. I need to find a command string to input in the edit boot options to tell boot manager to load windows rather than windows set up. The edit boot options I am talking about is when you hit f10 on after seeing the Toshiba screen.

I do not have any discs because the OEM software is stored on the drive in a different partition. This whole thing started when I typed setup in the "edit boot options" after pressing f10 on startup after I deleted what was originally there. Now it seems the only operating system boot managers see is setup

I do not have any other Win 7 machine in my house. I am starting to get the impression I screwed myself into having to do the restore to get it back to normal. I will loose all my kid pictures and business files. What a disaster. Stupid me

Is that the version and language you have? download the ISO. Burn to DVD using imgburn The Official ImgBurn Website
Boot from that DVD and do a startup repair as described earlier.

Well I am going to need this laptop fixed soon. I know it boils down to inputting a command string in the edit boot options to tell the boot manager to load windows instead of loading the windows setup. I cannot remember what portion was in this area before I erased it.

Yeah I need another computer for that. If I had another one, I would just take the drive out of here and slave it to a desktop to pull the information off then let setup restore the system.

No one near me with windows 7. A friend told me we might be able to start Linux on it to pull the information off then allow setup to return the HDD to factory status. I am going to hate having to do that. I think at this point I am going to need to find a desktop running at least xp to pull the files I need off of it. I know everything is still there. Partition 1 is intact as I never allowed setup to run. Partition 2 has Microsoft office click to run and partition 3 has the restore software and OS in it. I have, and used several partition program and can do what I need to just need to find another computer I guess.

If you're so sure all is still there.....don't do a factory restore!

Do you have any cd/dvd in house to do the following?
  • show partitions on disk
It can be a linux bootable CD/DVD or some partition manager cd/dvd. Prove all partitions are still there. Prove files are still there.

What partition is marked ACTIVE? "recovery", "system reserved", or win7 partition itself?

I will try using Linux as suggested my a friend to see what I can do. I still wonder if I can input a command string into edit boot options to tell boot manager to simply run windows normally. It did switch to running setup when I typed setup. It should be just as easy to switch it back. Or I am just dreaming. I thank you for your help. I won't do a restore unless I get the info off of it with the Linux boot cd or someone here can somehow come up with the command line to tell boot manager to run normally

Along the top highlighted says Edit Boot Options then below says Edit Windows boot options for: windows set up
Below that says Path: \windows\system32\boot\winload.exe

Then [ /MININT /REDIRECT RDIMAGEOFFSET=8192 RDIMAGELENGTH=3161088 RDPATH= multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(3)\sources\boot.wim

Any other menu I can get into has the windows setup header. Not windows

But are there any more boot entries (so not "windows set up")?
