Sitting here in class and our professor was telling us admin it disabled by default in Vista/W7 now for security reasons. I mentioned you can access it from a command prompt based program that comes in a bootable iso format you burn on disc.

I can not for the life of me remember what the name of that program was but a couple years ago I was working on a Win Vista system that got a virus that locked out the user by changing the user account passwords.

We Googled, found this program you burn on a CD and it brings up a menu that will allow you to reset the user account password, or log into the admin account.

Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Trying to find the name of it. Can't seem to find it now.

Thanks!

Maybe I mis-spoke, it's not really a "hacking" program, it's a program to reset the passwords. In our case we had a pretty valid reason to use it, read above.

Is this a new forum policy? This is where I got the info in the first place.

Hell, that is how I found this forum in the first place. I Googled that subject and stumbled upon big thread here about this program. Hence why I'm back here asking again.

Um, ok, I wasn't trying to upset anyone. Thanks anyway, back to Google I go.

If you search here on the forums, you will find many threads and tools for password resetting.

If all you want to do is activate the Admin account, that's easy if you are an administrative user. Not so easy if you are a limited user.

Yeah that wouldn't work in this scenario, this would be if you were locked out of the system totally, no admin access, hell admin isn't even enabled and the user account passwords forgotten or changed.

In the case we had a couple years ago, a virus has reset/changed the user account password. We used this tool/live CD to reset/change the password, gained access, backed up what we needed to backup and formatted and fresh installed Win Vista.

Anyway I found it over on sourceforge.net and it's listed as being a free open source and legal program. I know for the most part sourceforge.net is pretty good about deleting programs that violate laws but hey.

I won't mention the name or post links if that type of discussion is actually not allowed here on W7 Forums though. I just wanted to say sorry if I upset anyone, that was not my intent.

I just wanted it as a proof of concept for our class. My professor basically just told us if you don't create a Windows Vista/7 password reset disc, your screwed if you loose your password and I knew that was wrong given the tools floating around the net.

Thanks guys/gals! :)

The best way is ophcrack . Usb version
Can create a bootable usb Use Google and type how to make bootable usb
Drag the files of oph on to the usb and boot from pendrive
U get a load of writing come up.
First option u select is D which is .load drivers automatically the select the drive where c drive is . U follow the basic steps tht it ask for. Not hard to be honest .u can unlock locked accounts . Remove passwords too. I would nt recommend setting the password with this program as it can mess the registry up
I used it before when I forgot my password
Also I'm not promoting anything on how to remove passwords nor wanting to break the rules . This
Is for genuine help
Don't abuse the program n should only be used for legitimately reasons

Hope this helps ..
