Ok, guys, I have the following issue:
Yesterday I dropped my laptop. After a reboot it continued to work fine for about an hour before it froze. I force-rebooted the system only to get to a Windows 7 menu that eventually said something like "Windows will try to solve the problems and restart."
A restart did follow, however this the time the booting never even reached the Windows logo boot part, but instead gave a "A disk read error occurred." At this point I am near certain it is a hardware issue and from what I have read it is likely a faulty RAM or hard drive.
Nevertheless, I decided to try a Windows 7 live usb boot repair. The first time it booted normally and I decided to complete a Windows memory diagnostic before anything else, just for a check. I left the computer while the diagnostic was ongoing and returned to see a responsive mouse cursor on a black screen. I waited for a while (a while!) and then had to reboot it again. Then the computer started booting and right after the Windows Logo it gave me again the same mouse cursor on a black screen. I tried again with safe mode - same.

P.s. I read somwhere Windows 7 live usb requires usb 2.0 ports and mine are all 3.0, what do you think about this issue?

I would like to perform a windows 7 repair, how could you help me?

Lastly, could you tell me any other bootable live usb programs that I can use to check if it is my ram that is broken or my hard drive, or something else?

At this point my goal is first to attempt a software recovery/repair, and if that yields not result to search for the faulty hardware - most probably ram or hard drive. Could you guide me?

Any remarks/advices would be of use. Thanks!

Hi & welcome to the Forum.

The most likely damage from dropping is hard drive failure.
