I just bought a copy of Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit and upgrading from Vista Home Premium 32 bit. I was able to complete the install on my laptop without issue but when I did the desktop, it completed the install but when it starts up it only shows a black screen and cursor? :sarc: Really need some help.

Hi Kamui, welcome to the forums
I suspect it is because you are using the TV as a monitor. You might have to install updated drivers for your card. Do you have a monitor you could hook up to it to check if it is working that way and install what needed?

Maybe?

Maybe you're having the same issue I [thought] I was having. I was starting up, getting the loading splash screen then it was just going black. I couldn't figure out what was wrong with mine till I read this post and noticed that you were getting the black screen AND cursor. This made me check for my cursor and then I saw it fly in from the left side of the monitor when I was moving the mouse around. I have two monitors set up (one being a tv that I usually just leave off) and windows had set the 2nd monitor as my default which I'm not used to. When I turned on the tv there was the login screen.

I am not sure it is the monitor because when I installed vista it was working without issue and did not have to install any drivers? That and I am getting the typing cursor in the upper left hand of the screen. I do have a second drive installed still running vista and it also displays.

I think at this point the best approach is to ask you to post a screenshot of your Vista Disk Management map which you say you can boot into. Make sure it includes all drives.

Also can you please tell us what your goal it with this install? Were you wanting a dual boot with Vista on partititions on the same HDD, on different HDD's. Did you start the install from the Vista desktop, or boot the installer? What do you mean that after you "did the desktop" it completed the install before the screen blacked?

It is not a dual boot but it has 2 separate Hard drives installed.

OK with what little you have disclosed (why ignore all the questions from someone trying to help?) I am wondering whether you are trying to install Win7 to an external drive connected to your laptop? It will not.

Otherwise, absent the requested Disk Management screenie from your working Vista there is not much we can do.

You might try booting the Win7 installer and trying installation to an internal HDD or partition. You can use the Custom>advanced tools on installer to format partition(s) or the drive.

It's really not easy to help someone who ignores all of the questions to which answers could have already solved the problem. If we have time to type questions, surely you have time to answer them?

I was not trying to ignore any questions. It is not an external drive but the tower is housing 2 internal drives. I do apologize if my answers are not coming that fast but I am responding when the email shows someone has typed in responses. I appreciate any and all help I can get.
